Company general info:

Brambles hopes customers will call on CHEP to help them schlep goods through the supply chain. Brambles' primary subsidiary, CHEP is a leading lessor of shipping pallets and plastic containers. In a typical transaction, CHEP issues a pallet or container to a manufacturer, which then uses the equipment to ship goods to a distributor or retailer. After products reach their destination, the pallet or container is returned to CHEP for reconditioning before being sent on its next journey. Overall, CHEP manages a pool of more than 300 million pallets and containers from service centers in about 45 countries. Brambles' other main business, Recall, offers records management services.

Brambles is concentrating on increasing the market penetration of CHEP's pallet leasing business, particularly in the Americas. The food service and beverage industries have been identified as growth opportunities. A new service offering, in which CHEP bases employees and equipment at customers' sites, has won a favorable response. At the same time, the company is working to expand CHEP's European business, especially in Germany and Poland, and it has launched operations in China and India.

Recall, which operates in more than 20 countries in the Americas, the Asia/Pacific region, and Europe, hopes to grow by taking advantage of increased demand for security in information management and by selling more packages of physical and digital records storage services. It is also working to cut costs, particularly in its operations in the Americas.

To go with its growth agenda, Brambles has a new CEO. Michael Ihlein, who had served as CFO, took over in 2007 after David Turner retired.

MICHAEL IHLEIN APPOINTED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Brambles Limited announced today that Michael Ihlein has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of

Brambles, with effect from 1 July 2007. Mr Ihlein, who has been Chief Financial Officer of Brambles since joining the group in March 2004, will succeed David Turner whose retirement as CEO on 30 June 2007 was announced earlier this year. The Chairman of Brambles Limited, Don Argus, said that the decision to appoint Mr Ihlein followed an extensive global search, which included the review of internal and external candidates. “Mike has made an outstanding contribution since joining Brambles in early 2004,” Mr Argus said. “He played a lead role in developing the strategy announced in November 2005 to divest the Group’s non-core assets and unify Brambles’ dual-listed companies structure. Mike’s drive and determination were key factors in the successful implementation of that strategy and the resulting generation of significant shareholder value. “With his strong commercial and financial acumen and his solid understanding of Brambles’ operations, Mike is uniquely positioned to lead Brambles as we build on the foundations which have been laid for the Group’s ongoing success.”
