General Information, Rules and Regulations

  1. The HMR Sport Horse Club Inc. is a non-profit corporation whose mandate is to promote a healthy lifestyle for its members through participation in and hosting of educational, recreational, charitable and competitive equestrian events in the Battleford area. A portion of the profits from our events go to youth programs.
  2. Directions: From the Battleford bridge, travel NW on Hwy #16 towards Lloydminster. 5 km from the bridge is Sunshine Road (green sign on your right) (you will have passed a big tourist info sign and rest area on your left). Turn left onto Sunshine Road. Follow Sunshine Road straight west for 5.7km. Do NOT turn off until you see the sign that says Hidden Meadows Ranch (on your left). The last ½ mile is a sand road. Turn left (south) at the sign and travel in about ¾ mile. Welcome to the ranch!!!!! We look forward to hosting this show and sincerely hope you have a wonderful weekend.
  3. SHF Membership: Either individual SHF membership or HMR Sport Horse Club membership is mandatory for all riders participating in this horse show. Information regarding SHF individual membership, the insurance program and other benefits can be found at . Both SHF and HMR Sport Horse memberships can be purchased at the show office but we encourage competitors to purchase your SHF membership online at before the show.
  4. Heritage Circuit points: Many classes are eligible for Heritage Circuit points. Nomination forms will be available at the show office or on the SHF website. Only nominated horses and riders will receive Heritage points. *designates Heritage Circuit classes. Points accumulate from the date the nomination is made.
  5. Office Hours: The show office will be open at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2017. During the competition, it will open one hour before the first class and remain open until one hour after the last class each day.
  6. Entries: All entries must be made in writing and signed by the rider. The parent or legal guardian must sign entries of junior riders and the junior’s birth date must be given. Entry fees must accompany entry form or be paid before the start of the show if entries are emailed.
  7. A current negative Cogginstest (within 6 months) is required by mail or email before your entry will be accepted.

  10. Cancellation of Entries: At the discretion of the show committee, entry fees, less a $10.00/day office charge, will be refunded with a veterinarian’s certificate or proof of illness of rider.
  11. Cheques:Should be made payable toHMR Sport Horse Club Inc. A service fee of $50.00 may be charged on all NSF cheques.
  12. Waiver: must be signed and submitted with the entry form.
  13. Rules: as per the current SHF Heritage Circuit Handbook or at the discretion of the show committee. The Rule Book can be downloaded at
  14. Management: Reserves the right to cancel, split or combine any classes that do not fill to their satisfaction.
  15. Protests: We welcome suggestions and positive comments at any time. Should any question or dispute arise, it shall be referred to the show committee Chairperson. The Show Committee will meet and their decision will be final.
  16. Numbers: A separate cheque for $10.00 will be required before your number is released. This cheque will be returned to you when you return your number. One number will be assigned to each horse/rider combination. Correct numbers must be worn and be clearly visible on BOTH sides of the saddle pad or the rider’s back at all times when in schooling and exercise areas as well as in the competition ring.
  17. Stabling: will be available from noon on Friday, May 26. Stalls and pens will be assigned. Please do not move from your assigned stall. On-site stabling consists of open 10 x 10 pens at $20 for the weekend or larger paddocks for multiple horses at $20 per horse for the weekend. Exhibitors are welcome to bring their own temporary pens and set up in the camping area. Stallions will be stabled separately – please contact the show host to make arrangements.
  18. Warm Up Areas: Both show rings will be available for schooling on Friday. Warm up areas will be posted and available during the show days. Please do not go through closed gates.
  19. Concession: will be available Saturday and Sunday for breakfast, lunch and snacks.
  20. Saturday night Exhibitor Supper and Social: This will be a “bring your own meat and a potluck salad or dessert” BBQ to take place approximately one hour after the last class.
  21. Hotel Accommodations: The Gold Eagle Lodge is the official Host Hotel of the 2017HMR Sport Horse Club Spring Fling Horse Show. There is a block of rooms set aside at a corporate rate.
  22. Camping: is available at no charge. There are no hookups. Please clean up after yourself.
  23. Footing: is sand and grass.
  24. Weather: Show will be moved indoors if the weather is inclement.
  25. Wash Racks: are not available. However, there will be lots of water and you are welcome to bath using pails.
  26. Parking: Please parkin designated areas only.
  27. Garbage and Recycling: There will be bins throughout the show grounds. Please use them.
  28. Dogs: Dogs should be on a leash at all times and outside of the arenas.
  29. Helmets: Protective headgear with a chinstrap and meeting the ASTM standards and displaying the SEI seal is mandatory for all Junior riders (age as of January 1, 2017) at ALL TIMES WHEN MOUNTED on the show grounds. Helmets are also required for all persons in English and over fences classes. Adults are encouraged but not required to wear helmets in western classes.
  30. Dress: Competitors should be neatly and suitably dressed either Western or English. Western attire to include anapproved helmet or suitable western hat, long sleeved shirt with collar and tie, scarf or pin, western pants and belt, western boots. Chaps and spurs are optional. English dress to include approved helmet with chinstrap, shirt with collar, pin, dark jacket, breeches or jodhpurs, tall English boots or half chaps with Jodhpur boots. Spurs a5e optional.

  32. Tack and Equipment: as per the current Heritage Circuit Handbook. Tiedowns and mechanical hackamores allowed in gymkhana classes only. Martingales allowed in hunters and gymkhana. Boots or bandages allowed in reining and gymkhana only. Whips not to exceed 30” allowed in hunters and gymkhana only.
  33. Age of Rider: is determined as of January 1st, 2017

  1. Stallions: May NOT be shown or handled by a Junior.
  2. Junior Horse: is 5 years of age or under (as of January 1st, 2017) and may be ridden in a ring snaffle with 2 hands in all classes entered.
  3. Riding: Please be considerate of spectators and other riders and WALK your horse unless you are in the show arena or a designated warm up area.
  4. Leadline No entry fee. 6 years old and under to be led by an adult. Western or English. Prizes only.
  5. Walk/Trot Division : No cross entry of horse/rider combination into any other classes – although the horse may be shown in other divisions with a different rider.
  6. Showmanship, Command, Pairs, Jack Bennymay be ridden English or Western.
  7. Extreme Trail: Is a timed trail class with points given for various obstacles. Riders to determine their own pattern for doing the obstacles.
  8. If a minimum of 5 entries in a class is not achieved, the management has the right to reduce designated prize money by 50%.
  9. Entry Fees: All classes $8.00/class (Sr and Jr) Stake Classes are $20
  10. Prizes: $50/class paid to 4 places. Ribbons to 5th. Prizes only for Walk/Trot, Showmanship, leadline and Equitation classes. Stake classes $50 + $12 addback from each entry fee split 40, 30, 20 10%. Stake money will be mailed after the show.
  11. High Point Awards: A high point award will be given each day and in each age group Walk/Trot, Junior C, Junior B and Senior. OneGrand Aggregate Cooler will be awarded to the Horse/Rider accumulating the most points in all classes over the two days. Entries receiving awards MUST be present to accept the award and for a sponsor picture. Please check with the office if you think you are close to receiving a high point award and need to leave.
  12. Scholarships: All youth competitors who compete at HMR Sport Horse Club Competitions in 2017will be entered in a draw for a rider scholarship. The draw will be made at the end of the show season.
