BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON

The Public Safety, Finance/Planning/Zoning, and Human/Community Services Committee Workshop Meetings were held on August 26, 2013 in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA 18080.

The meeting was called to order by President Stevens at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance:

PUBLIC SAFETY

Jon Rinker-Chairman; Members: Gwyneth Neff, David Schnaars

1.  Bike Night Update-Councilor Rinker said that it seems like everything is in place for the event it will be taking place in two weeks. He said that the Fire Chief has signed a contract with a private security firm; there will be six armed security guards along with the on duty police officers. Councilor Rinker noted that we do not expect any problems we just want to be on-track with everything. President Stevens noted that the original motion made by Councilor Schnaars at the May Council Meeting specified that 6 police officers were to be on duty during the event. Councilor Rinker asked if we can place this on the agenda for the next Council Meeting so we can rescind the motion. President Stevens said that we will need to have a Special Meeting because the event will be before the Council Meeting. The Committee requested that we hold a Special Meeting to rescind the motion from the May Council Meeting.

2.  Child Abuse Donation- Councilor Rinker said that we usually donate to the County of Lehigh for the Child Abuse Investigator in the amount of $1,500.00 per year. President Stevens said that we do figure this amount into the budget. The Committee requested for this to be placed on the agenda for the next Council Meeting.

3.  Mert Donation- Councilor Rinker said we don’t normally donate to them because we have an officer that is part of the team.

4.  Training at reservoir house/Mert Team- President Stevens said that Sergeant Alercia stopped in to ask permission to use the reservoir house for MERT training on September 9, 2013. The Committee requested for this to be placed on the agenda for the Special Meeting.

FINANCE/PLANNING/ZONING

Gwyneth Neff – Chairman; Members: David Schnaars, Jon Rinker

1.  Copier Lease- Councilor Neff requested for this to be tabled now until she is able to obtain more quotes. President Stevens said that he was there and met with the man from Stratix. He said he was informed that we can go from a black and white copier to a color copier and it will still be than our current lease. President Stevens said that he believes that our contract will expire at the end of the year.

2.  Pictometry License Agreement- President Stevens said that this is a license for the internet for mapping and Arial overlays. He said that our Zoning Officer contacted the County and they will download all the software free of charge we just need to approve it. The Committee requested for this to be placed on the agenda for the next Council Meeting.

HUMAN/COMMUNITY SERVICES

David Schnaars – Chairman; Members: Gwyneth Neff, Jon Rinker

1.  Letter from the Sesquicentennial Committee- Councilor Schnaars said we received an invitation from the Committee inviting us to the pig roast on August 24. He said that the Committee was all in attendance. Councilor Schnaars said that it was a great event and Councilor Neff added that the fire works were phenomenal.

2.  100 Steps- Councilor Schnaars said that the Parks and Recreation Commission started looking at this project about 5 years ago. We have heard about a lot of grants for scenic overlooks. He said we are trying to find a way to get the steps repaired, because they are in bad shape. Councilor Schnaars said that since Lehigh Engineering was at the site looking at the water drainage problem, they offered to do this study for us as well. Councilor Schnaars said that this project looks fairly inexpensive.

SLATINGTON SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE

David Schnaars – Chairman; Members: Gwyneth Neff, Jon Rinker

1.  Kickoff Weekend- Councilor Schnaars said it looked like a successful kick off, he added that he hasn’t received a report back from the Committee. President Stevens thanked everyone for their hard work in making this event a success.

There were no further questions from the committee members, other Council and the Sesquicentennial Committee Meeting was adjourned.

Chairman Neff made a motion to adjourn at 6:44 P.M.
