BOARD OF HEALTH

ADEQUATE NOTICE

Pursuant to the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et. seq., adequate notice of this meeting has been provided by including same in the Annual Notice, copies of which were posted on the Municipal Bulletin Board, on the main floor of the Municipal Building, filed in the office of the Borough Clerk, emailed to the Chatham Courier on December 27th, 2012.

Additional attendees: Mrs. Gulla, Health Officer, Ms. Trotman, REHS (Madison Board of Health) and Erin Wydner and Jancy Tejda, nursing students from Montclair State.

Erin and Jancy are working on a Community Help Project where they are involved with a student assessment program through their nursing class at Montclair State University.

There were several suggestions from the board and the nursing students, such as; mortality statistics, heart disease, cancer, cardio vascular, and childhood obesity. Mrs. DeRosa mentioned the Borough’s no smoking poster campaign, headed by Mrs. Kaiser a few years back, which was a great success. Another idea was to meet with a dietician at a supermarket to advise seniors to choose the right food. The students would like to target school aged children, as their professor has to attend thepresentation.

Mrs. Gulla was in contact with the Police Department regarding their policy on how to handle dog bites. She has been in contact with Millburn Township regarding animal control. St. Hubert’s bill has been approximately $25,000 per year to the Borough for animal control. She also mentioned that the Borough should check with Millburn as to how they will trap the animals. She also recommended that food license fees should be increased and late fees should be imposed.

Mr. Lott explained the three ordinances that were on forintroduction and first reading and at tonight’s meeting.

After a short discussion Mrs. DeRosa made a motion to table ordinance BOH-13-01, seconded by Mrs. Chaput. A vote was taken in favor of tabling this ordinance. The Board was not in favor of allowing chickens and fowl in the Borough, as there is already an ordinance on the books opposing it.

Mrs. DeRosa made a motion to introduce ordinance BOH #13-02, seconded by Mrs. Marts.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF CHATHAM, COUNTY OF MORRIS, STATE OF NEW JERSEY DELETING SECTION 208-1 THROUGH -3 IN ITS ENTIRETY

Mrs. Gulla also reported on some programs that the Board of Health is involved with: Take Control-at the Senior Center, coping with chronic conditions, Project Healthy Bones, covers concerns about falling. She reported 51 food handlers attended the food handlers course a 24% improvement rate.

MEETING ADJOURNED

There was no further business to discuss. Mrs. DeRosa made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Myers the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
