Story for SML 2

“Bored!” I said to myself. It was only the first week of the summer holidays, so my life was full of boredom for the next two months. My family never really went anywhere, and most of my friends were off enjoying themselves in faraway countries, somewhere in the not-so-boring parts of the world.

I had already finished all my snacks and read all my books, and, worst of all, the wi-fi was broken. That meant no phones, laptop, computer oriPad. I tried to think of something to do, but the only thing I could think of was going to the library.

“ I’m sick and tired of reading. “ I said to myself. Now it was almost as if I was going crazy from boredom.

But a little voice in my mind kept telling me that I should go to the school library and borrow a book.

“Fine!” I said. “’I’ll go!”

“Mom! I’m just going to the school library for a bit!”

“Ok!” She called back from the kitchen where she was preparing dinner. “Stay safe, and be back before seven!”

I hopped onto my bicycle and spedtowards the library, making a quick stop for a scoop of Caramel Chocolate Fudge with Marshmallows.

When I got to the school’s library, it looked deserted.

Nevertheless, I pushed open one of the great oak doors and stepped inside.

With a smile at Miss Hedge, the librarianon duty, I started down the first aisle. Eventually, I came to the Sci-Fi one. I didn’t want to go down there as I hadn’t any interest in sci-fi but there was a voice in my head, same as the one before, telling me to head down there.

And so I did.

The aisle was dark, and filled with the musty scent of books. I took out my phone and put on its built-in torch. It lit up the aisle throwing shadows everywhere.

I shone my phone torch at the shelves, looking for a title that might catch my eye. I saw a book,‘Exploring Science with Professor Zaps’. “Boring,” I thought to myself.

Yet, I felt a strange urge to grab the book and read it. “What is it with me today?” I asked myself.

“Can’t be that bad,” I said to myself. I took the book and opened it to the first page. Professor Zaps was busy putting on his lab coat, preparing for his ‘Big Experiment’. Apparently, he was going to change the future of the human world.

“Well, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try.” I took the book and brought it to Miss Hedge for her to check-it out for me.

“That’s an interesting book you got there,” she said.

“Yeah,”I said, wondering whether she was being sarcastic or not.

Passing the book back to me, she said “Well, enjoy it and MAKE sure to return it on time.”

“Will do, Miss.”

With a smile, I walked out of the library and cycled back home.

When I arrived back home, I could smell a heavenly smell coming form the kitchen. “Mmm-mmm, what are you cooking, Mum?” I asked.

“Your favourite, Creamy Penne Pasta with Chicken. It’ll be ready in about 10 minutes.”

“Great! I can’t wait!”

I ran up to my room and took a shower. By that time I was done, dinner was ready so I quickly ran down.

After a delicious dinner of creamy pasta, I excused myself and went upstairs to chill. Exploring Science with Professor Zaps was sitting on my wooden desk. I could hear a voice, the same one,(I think), telling me to open up the book and read it. (I felt the urge to pick up the book.) ***

The voice was so sweet, so melodious, but yet at the same time it sounded so pressuring, harsh and forceful. I couldn’t resist it and walked, almost trance-like towards the book.

I browsed through the pages of ‘Exploring Science with Professor Zaps’ that I borrowed from the school library.

There he was, on page 13, doing some experiments in his laboratory, working with some bubbly and colourful chemicals.

I could have sworn he winked at me. He literally blinked and winked at me…and he winked again! Professor Zaps, the character in the book, actually blinked his eyes and winked at me!

I blinked my eyes in surprise. “Could this be real?” Still unsure, I pinched myself to make sure it wasn’t dreaming. “Ow!” I cried out. “This is definitely real! I looked back at the book. Professor Zaps gave me a wave, an almost-comical one.

“Curiouser and curiouser,” I said, recalling the quote from the ever-so-famous Alice in Wonderland.

I started to feel drowsy. My eyes felt heavy and I felt like I just wanted to curl up and fall asleep.

Suddenly, the pictures in the book started to grow bigger. They swirled around, becoming a mixture of pictures. I felt like I was being hypnotized! All of a sudden, my vision went pitch black! I sank to the floor, and fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up, I found myself sitting in an iron chair. My hands were held down by iron shackles.

“What’s going on?” I asked myself.

Looking around at my surroundings, I saw test tubes full of bubbling liquid, containers upon containers labeled DANGEROUS, a chair with some creepy and dangerous- looking machinery surrounding it, and what looked like a human brain in a jar full of liquid!

“What is this place?” I wondered aloud. “It looks like Professor Zaps laboratory.

Just then, a door, which I hadn’t noticed before, opened. In came Professor Zaps with eccentric hair,in his flowing lab coat.

“Why hello, Joshua. I’ve been expecting you,” he said.

“Expecting me? How?” I asked, confused.

“My dear boy, you are and will be my first test subject.”

“Test subject? For what?” My mind was reeling with questions. What test subject? Why was he expecting me? What and where was this place?

“I have been studying the human brain for almost three years now. I found out that the brain has the ability to be controlled and given orders, and to carrythese out of its own free will. If I took out the brain and put it in, oh lets see, a robot, it would walk, think and talk like a human but would be controlled unknowingly, of course, by me.”

“That’s insane!” I cried out. “Why would you do that??”

“Power, of course. I will create a gigantic army of robots. After which I will create a portal, leading to your world. I will then go in, and conquer your world! I will become its Supreme Ruler, and most powerful.

“Pffftt. Stop talking jibberish! Its not going to work, and things could go terribly wrong!”

“Trial and error!” He retorted back.

I could see Professor Zaps face getting redder and redder. He seemed to get pressured easily. “Hmm, maybe I could get that to work to my advantage,” I said to myself.

“Where am I?” I asked.

“Interesting question. You are on another planet, far, far away from your precious Earth. The book ‘Exploring Science with Professor Zaps’ is actually a portal disguised as a book to fool mortals like you! You were sucked in using one of my sucker devices and now you are lying on the floor in your room, asleep.”

“But won’t my parents notice me?” I asked, anxiety lighting up inside me.

“Aha! You see, that’s the best part! Once you are in my ‘world’, all data and evidence of you in YOUR world will be gone! Your parents will forget all about you, and NO ONE will know you even existed!”

“But… but… that’s not possible! That kind of thing doesn’t happen!” I was near tears now. All I wanted was to be home in my nice, warm bed, fast asleep.

“But it does! And it’s already happened!” Professor Zaps shouted at me.

“Now, enough of this chit-chat. I have important work to do. Like creating a giant army of robots! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

I started to shake with anger. If Professor Zaps’ plan worked, the whole world would be in ruins. I had to find a way to escape, if I could just find one.

Professor Zaps began mixing awful-looking chemicals and liquids. “What’s that for?” I asked.

“These will help to make the robot.” He replied, smiling.

“He’s absolutely mad!” I thought.

Suddenly, I realized there wasa table next to me on which were glass vials filled with strange-looking liquids. I stretched out my legs, trying to reach it. “Almost there, almost there!” I murmured to myself.

My legs knocked against one of the table legs. As if in slow-motion, the table started to tilt, along with the vials. Then it crashed to the floor! Glass was everywhere, and so were the liquids. A foul, corrosive smell started filling the room.

“What did you do?” Shouted Professor Zaps. He looked furious. “Now you’ve delayed my experiment!” From a nearby cupboard, he took out a silver vacuum, and started to clean up the mess.

Seeing him bend down, I seized my chance. I stretched out my legs and wrapped them tightly around Professor Zaps’ head. I tightened them into a headlock, turning Professor Zaps’ face purple.

He gasped for air, and waved his arms about madly. It was almost comical to watch.

“Now, let me free or I’ll kill you!” I snarled. But Professor Zaps merely smiled. He grabbed the vacuum he used earlier, and banged it hard against my legs! I tried to hold on, but the pain was unbearable!

My legs lost their grip on the professor’s head and slid off.

Professor Zaps immediately retreated to a safe distance, gulping in huge amounts of air.

“You’ll pay for that, boy!” He growled. “YOU will be the first robot made!

Professor Zaps undid my shackels. I tried to fight him and escape, but it was no use. He held me in an iron grip, preventing me from escaping.

He dragged me to the scary-looking chair I saw earlier, the one surrounded by machines. I tried to pull free but it was no use.

Tears began to run down my face as I thought of my home, my family, my friends and my world. They were all going to be destroyed.

Professor Zaps plonked me into the chair and strapped me in, this time with glowing green cuffs that bit into my skin. I bit my lip to prevent myself from screaming, knowing that Professor Zaps took pleasure in that.

On a keyboard of sorts, Professor Zaps punched in a few commands. “Access granted,” said a cool, robotic, female voice.

He punched in a few more orders, and the chair began to vibrate and a whirring sound started up from one of the machines.

“Goodbye, Joshua,” said Professor Zaps with a wicked smile. And was just about to press the button when…

“Wait!” I cried out. “Why me? Out of all the people in the world, why was I sucked into this world?”

“Ah! I was searching for the perfect test subject, and you had all of the qualities. Your brainis a little different from others, and I could sense something in you that I haven’t sensed in others. Plus, you were the closest to me, in a way,”said Professor Zaps.

“Enough of this talk! I have work to do!”

He pressed a large, silver button and the whirring of machines grew louder. The chair jolted backwards, and a strap secured my head painfully into place.

I braced myself for the agony that would soon follow. I knew there was no escaping now, and I was about to die. To make things easier, I just closed my eyes.

A machine injected me with some sort of serum. Instantly, I felt numb all over. “Anaesthetic,” I thought. I felt metal brush against my head and the whirring became stronger.

Cold metal sliced into my head. I was screaming. My vision was fading.

Then, strangely, my head felt light and empty. “My brain… It’s gone,” I thought.

I felt myself blacking out, and my life flashed before my eyes. The first face I saw when I was born, learning how to walk, first day at school, my friends, and my parents.

I knew there was no hope for them. They would be dead soon, just as I most certainly would be.

Knowing there was nothing else left do, I gave in to the drowsiness and fell asleep.

I felt metal all around me. My head, my face, my body, my legs, everything.Metal, metal, everywhere. I tried to move my hands. I couldn’t. I didn’t have any hands. My legs were the same. I tried opening my eyes. “Yes! They were still there!”

I felt different. Powerful. Like I could do things I could never do before. It was like there were no limits.

Suddenly, I saw a glowing figure in the darkness. It came closer and closer. It spoke.

“Ah, my wonderful creation. You look wonderful.” It was Professor Zaps. “

“Now, to activate you.”

I felt a warm, glowing sensation spread from my toes all the way up to my head. I had never felt more alive.

“Glad to see you are functioning properly. Now, I am sure you are in the dark about what has just happened. Allow me to fill you in,” Said Professor Zaps.

“After the machine cut open your head and took out your brain, it was placed inside this skeleton of a robot. Then, your eyes were taken as well and placed inside. You can still remember everything that has happened before, but now I control you completely.”

“Instead of flesh, your limbs are made out of metal. They have yet to be activated, but all in good time. “

I felt relief. At least I had limbs that could move.

Professor Zaps continued talking. “While you were unconscious, I created more and more robots. Now, I have a whole army ready to march out and destroy everything!”

“We will attack Planet Earth in a few hours. In the meantime, I will allow you and my army to function and get use to your new bodies. Till then, goodbye!”

I felt defeated. I didn’t want to be a slave to that maniac.

Suddenly, a tingling sensation spread through my body. My arms and legs felt warm.

I tried moving my right hand. It shifted slightly. “Oh well, at least I’m functioning,” I thought.

Within another hour, I could walk and run and jump and do all sorts of other things a normal human being could do. But unfortunately, I don’t think I could ever be considered human, given my present state.

Suddenly, bright lights flooded the room. It was an all-white room, with other robots inside. At one end of the room, there were pods of sorts, big enough for a person to step in.

“Greetings, TechMen!” Professor Zaps voice boomed through a speaker from a corner in the room.

“TechMen?” I asked myself.

“In just a few minutes, we will launch what we have all been waiting for, Invasion of Planet Earth! To begin, step into one of the pods in the room and await further orders. Now!”

I didn’t want to obey, but I felt an invisible force pushing me towards one of the sleek, shiny, silver pods.

I stepped into a pod. There was no chair or anything else. Just standing room and a blank screen. Just then, the pod’s door closed, leaving me to stare into a transparent sheet of glass.

Suddenly, the screen lit up and Professor Zaps face appeared. “Good morning, TechMen! In juts a few minutes, a portal will open above you and you will be sucked into it. Then, you will appear in Earth and we will begin our invasion! Thank you, and enjoy the ride!” Showing a wicked smile Professor Zaps disappeared and the screen went black.

All of a sudden, a glowing blue portal appeared overhead. It radiated a powerful aura around it, and looked so deep and mysterious.

I felt the pod being lifted off the ground. As the portal grew nearer, the pod began to shake and jigger all over. Then, I was in the portal, surrounded by the glowing blue light.

Inside the portal, I could see tiny flecks of glitterish blue sparks inside. All of a sudden, I couldn’t see them anymore as my pod shot through the portal, faster than the speed of sound!

Then, I was out in the open, surrounded by white, fluffy clouds and blue sky. “Earth!” I cried out. I wanted to be home.

My pod seemed to be coming down slowly, onto what looked like a building rooftop.

I could see the hustle and bustle of the city below, people going around in their daily lives, oblivious to the danger that was going to befall them.

The screen in the pod lighted up again. Professor Zaps face filled the screen. “I am glad to see you have landed safely. We are currently onSilvermist tower. From there, we will launch our attack on the city below. It will begin in a few minutes.”

I desperately tried to think of a way to stop the forthcoming massacre, but there was nothing. I didn’t want to be responsible for deaths.

I knew that however hard I tried, I would not be able to stop myself from carrying out Professor Zaps’ orders.

The pod door slid open. Out of my control, I walked out. I fell into a line of TechMen. There was utter silence. No talking, nothing.

Then, a sort of hoverboard came down in the air. Professor Zaps was standing on it, grinning like a kid in a candy store.

He came to a stop in front of us.

“My army of TechMen! We will now proceed to take over the city below. I have specially programmed you to carry out only my orders. Now, let this battle begin!”

The entire army started marching towards the edge of the building. The first row stepped off the building and onto the city below. The next row then stepped forward and jumped.
