The BooneCounty 4-H Foundation’s

Margaret Garner Outstanding 4-H Family Award

NOMINATION FORM

The Award

The Margaret Garner Outstanding 4-H Family Award is made possible by the Margaret Garner Memorial Fund. It is open to BooneCounty 4-H families who are currently active and have been active for five (5) years previously. Each 4-H Club Leader in BooneCounty may nominate a family, which exemplifies an ideal 4-H family. This should be a family which sets or exceeds the standards and norms of the community and has contributed to the betterment of their club, and 4-H as a whole. The nominated family shall complete a form detailing their involvement in 4-H. Special emphasis should be made on how the whole family has been involved in 4-H. The award recipient will be selected by a committee consisting of three (3) members of the BooneCounty 4-H Foundation, a member of the Boone County Senior Council Executive Committee and the BooneCounty 4-H Youth Specialist. This award will be presented at the annual 4-H Recognition night.

Margaret Garner

Margaret Garner was a firm believer that “4-H is a family affair.” Within the Garner family, priorities of family, church, school and 4-H were to be honored. Other activities would not interfere. Each of the four children: Linda; Allen; Gary and Brian, completed 10 years of 4-H work. Her husband, George, was a project leader for 15 years, chaired the Senior Council and served on many county 4-H committees. He has served as a member of the 4-H Foundation. Margaret taught “Beginning sewing “for 25 years, served as community leader for the Strawn-O-Lite 4-H Club, worked on many county committees, and annually participated in the BooneCounty 4-H Fair. When asked “what do you do in the summertime?”, Margaret replied, “4-H.” To her, 4-H was a family effort.
