Book Project: Diary Of A (Adjective) Kid Due Date: November 30

You will write a diary that one of the story’s main characters might have kept before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that the character’s thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary. You cannot use a book that you read last year or in third grade (for example). It must be a fiction book you read this nine-weeks and cannot have recently been made into a movie (The Hobbit, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, etc). This book must be at least 200 pages in length. You must have your book approved by Mr. Whatley and you cannot change the book unless you discuss it with him.

For this project, you will create a diary of one of the characters in the book. You will write the diary from the perspective of this character like events happened to him/her or the character was told about the events by another character in the book. The style in which you write it should be similar to the character’s.

Comments:

Cover Page for the diary needs to have an illustration that must be colored and fill up the entire page. Make certain you have the title of the book, author’s name, genre’ of the book, and number of pages. Make sure you have your name (first and last) and your class period. The title of this project is called “Diary of a(n) ____Adjective____ Kid. The adjective will describe the character whose diary you are writing. For example, if you had the diary for Hermione from Harry Potter, your title might be “Diary of An Insufferable-Know-It-All Kid” or for Percy Jackson it would be “Diary of a Surprisingly-Courageous Kid”.

Entries in the Diary: Entries should be spaced out throughout the entire book. If you have more than 10, you may receive extra credit. If your book has 14 chapters, you could do extra entries and receive extra credit OR you could space the entries out as evenly as possible. For example: Entry Page 1 could be for chapters 1&2, Entry Page 2 could be for chapters 3&4, Entry Page 3 could be chapters 5&6, Entry Page 4 could be chapter 7, Entry Page 5 chapter 8, etc. You must write each in the style and essence of the character. Since you are writing in the style of a character, you will write your diary in first person point of view. You are basically pretending to be a character and reflecting the events in the book in your diary.
