Keith Furman

Memorial Scholarship

Keith “Frank” Furman was born May 11, 1952 at Britton, SD. He grew up and went to school in Kidder through his junior year. Keith graduated from BrittonHigh School in 1970.

After graduation, Keith worked at the Britton Lumber Yard until January of 1973, when he started working at Cenex in Britton. He worked his way into the bulk delivery driver, the position he held at the time of his death on November 9, 1991. Keith had received the Safe Driving Award from Cenex. Keith had many interests, but a special interest was being in the North Marshall Fire Department, which he joined in August of 1975. Keith was very active as an educator in the fire safety program, like the stop-drop-roll, started in the fall of 1983. This program was presented to the local school and for other local youth organizations. He was also the charter chairman of the Hazardous Materials Program in MarshallCounty.

Keith served as assistant fire chief, starting in December of 1987 and held other offices and positions while a member of the fire department. He also served as counselor for troubled youth from our area when the call arose. The North Marshall Fire Department meant a lot to Keith. He was chosen Fireman of the Year in 1982 and again in 1989.

Keith is survived by two sons, Kyle and Blake of Britton, his mother, Esther of Britton, six brothers, Roger, Lee, Dwayne (Skip), David all of Britton Dennis of Groton, SD and Russell of Ellendale, ND and one sister, Carolyn of Wichita, KS.
