Old Business
1. Reading Program Wrap-up (feedback-suggestions for next year)
-Overall, we agreed the program was effective. Some suggestions for next year include making a bigger page number goal but keep it the same amount of time. Some teachers felt that their students got “burnt out” with the program towards the end.
-We should have an accountability piece so that we are focusing on quality over quantity. Some ideas that we liked were Patella’s reading chain and Fourth grade’s reading train.
New Business
1. Tsunami relief fundraiser (Is this something we want to do?)
-SIT will possibly sponsor a Tsunami Relief Project. Each student will bring in a box and decorate, and they will take it home to collect money. SIT will be responsible for sending home a letter.
-Teachers will bring this back to your team and get more ideas.
-We will set a goal for how much money we would like to raise.
-This is a good opportunity to discuss the Japanese culture, and this is a good chance for a service-learning project.
-More information about this will come.
2. BOGO Book Fair
-We will have a small book fair 1/2/3 of June. It will be just cases (no tables). The items will also be limited. No pencils, posters, etc.
-This will be during remediation week of EOG’s. Please be mindful that book fair should not take away from this time.
3. EOY Activities (Parties, Picnics-Safety Liability Issues)
-Due to liability and safety issues, students need to be heavily escorted when going on these off campus trips (BoltonPark, PB’s). Please treat it like a field trip. You MUST provide a permission slip for parents to sign, and you need to make sure to take any needed medications. Also, please make sure that administration knows you are leaving campus.
-Please be aware of the dangers associated with taking your students off campus. If you choose to do so, be very careful.
-In addition to fifth grade graduation, we could maybe have a recognition ceremony per grade level on the same day as your field day.
-This will be planned/implemented by individual grade levels. Please do not plan to have it in the gym…perhaps the JapaneseGarden or the MediaCenter.
-More information will come for this!
4. PBIS
-For K-2 teachers: We will create a social group based on consistent behaviors to target it before it becomes an upper grade issue. More to come about this activity.
-One teacher per grade who specializes in certain interventions (example: bullying, rough play). One teacher will pull out students a couple times a week to discuss these behaviors with certain students.
-Please make sure that you are consistently completing classroom discipline forms.
-If you have students who are consistently getting 4-5 write-ups a week, please contact Ms. Johnson with these names of students.
-PBIS will further discuss these details in staff meetings. If you have questions, please ask Shelley Smith or April Long.
5. School Data & Summary Analysis
-We will discuss this at the next meeting. Please take this back to your teams to come up with
collaborative responses.
-Please be mindful that staff meetings are usually going to be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The next staff meeting will be Wednesday April 20th, 3:30-5:00ish.
-PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ON TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Classified staff members are required to attend the AM staff meetings. However, they are not required to attend the PM staff meetings.
