SUPPLY LIST FOR

CASA BUENA ART RETREAT, MEXICO

OIL PAINT: NOTE: For the Casa Buena Art Retreat – oil and acrylic paint as well as OMS will be supplied. However, please feel free to bring your own paint if you prefer.

Any professional grade is great. Please buy professional grade whenever possible  This is my complete studio palette which varies only depending on whether I’m painting a figure, landscape/plein air, etc. in which case it might be pared down. Please have the basic palette indicated * and your own palette if you prefer.

Titanium/Zinc White * (I use Flake White except for plein air)

Naples Yellow

Yellow Ochre *

Venetian Red or Terra Rosa* for portrait/figure classes (optional)

BRUSHES:

Hog Bristle Filbert OR Flat depending on your preference

#2 Filbert, bristle – (this is approx ¼ inch wide)

#4 Filbert or Flat, bristle – (this is approx ¾ inches wide)

1 - #6 Filbert or Flat, bristle

Some favourite synthetic or natural brushes

2” synthetic flat for knocking down edges (optional)

- PLEASE ENSURE THAT BRUSHES ARE CLEAN AND IN GOOD SHAPE!

MEDIUM: (if you choose to use one) made from Half OMS + Half Oil (walnut, linseed or stand) – in a small jar with lid. (bring small jar with lid and oil with you)

You can use Liquin, etc for your medium, as well (bring with you)

PALETTE KNIFE: (for mixing paint and painting)

A triangular shaped one (trowel) medium size. Please no bent knives.

PALETTE: a wooden one is best providing it has been treated well with oil first otherwise it will soak up the oil in your paint. Give it many treatments of oil before you use it. A paper palette is fine – please make it the larger size. The grey coloured one is best.

EASEL: A pochade or French easel. With tripod or table variety.

CANVASES or SUPPORTS:

Canvas on stretcher bars or mounted on panels. Please buy the best supports you can.

1-2 – 16x20 or 14x18 for the figure workshop Plus 1-8x10 for study

12x16 for the still life workshop

2- 8x10, 11x9, etc for plein air

*You can purchase some canvas and boards at Casa Buena.

MISCELLANEOUS:

CAMERA (to photograph the model to finish our painting back in your studio and to photograph my painting step-by-step for your records.

A final, very important, note. Having the best quality tools on hand can make all the difference in not only your final product, but in bringing pleasure to your pursuit of knowledge. Whenever possible, please buy professional grade supplies, and if you look after them, they’ll last a good while for you.
