REGULAR MEETING

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of the Brocton Central School District, Chautauqua County, New York, was called to order in said school district in said building on April 27, 2016 at 7:00 pm.

At 7:00, President Walter called the meeting to order and the pledge to the flag was recited. The board enjoyed a musical presentation by Heather Harrison and Dylan Murphy! Kudos – very enjoyable.

CONSENT AGENDA - RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the minutes of the Regular Board meeting of April 13th and the Special Board meeting of April 19, 2016.

COMMUNICATIONS, REPORTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS

Additions/amendments to the agenda - RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the agenda for the April 27, 2016 with amendments.

Under Public Comments, Gary Planty speaking on behalf of the Village of Brocton Board thanked the Board for granting use of our facilities for the upcoming Summer Recreation Program.

Mr. Delcamp updated the Board on the school sign/brick work. He has obtained rough estimates and approximate costs if we go with a permanent masonry structure as opposed to a landscaping plan. He will collect more information and meet with the Building and Grounds committee.

Mr. Mead-Colegrove arrived at this time. 7:07 pm

Mr. Delcamp gave an update on the status of the combined football teams. The Board agreed to set the date for our Re-Organizational Meeting for July 13, 2016.

Mr. McFadden arrived at this time. 7:10 pm

Mr. Delcamp spoke about his evaluation which needs to be completed in the near future.

Good news items in Middle and High School included the many awards THE REVIEW received from the New York Press Association; Tim Skinner’s participation in the Rotary Slapshot Leadership Camp; Steve Krystofiak’s 3rd Place win in Beat the Champ; upcoming Envirothon competition and the Greenhouse project.

Elementary is excited about the upcoming Summer Reading Program; Special Olympics being held May 25th; PBIS planning for their startup in September; 5th Grade plays; and the upcoming Elementary Concert on Monday May 2nd at 7:00 pm.

Mr. Delcamp shared the Budget Newsletter with the Board and commended Mrs. Barkley for her work in preparing it. He stated that she is doing an excellent job.

The District Clerk reminded the board of the Annual Meeting being held May 10th at 7:00 pm in the school cafeteria. Mrs. Miller also informed the Board that four (4) individuals are seeking seats on the Board. (Mike Riforgiato, Todd McFadden, James Rizzo, Jr., and Kevin Weaver)

Under the Student and Community report, discussions involved the request from the Brocton Fire Department for shared services regarding the use of the fitness center. After lengthy deliberations, no decision was made. This was referred back to the committee and they will report back May 18th.

NEW BUSINESS:

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, appoint Lisa Liberator, Robbin Mutch and Trudy Anderson to the positions of Elementary Summer Reading teachers for students entering grades 1st through 6th at the BTA contractual rate as set in Appendix O of the 2013-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Discussion: Mrs. Liberator will work the entire 4 weeks and Mrs. Mutch and Mrs. Anderson will each do 2 weeks.

RESOLVED that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent participate in the Orleans/Niagara BOCES Regional Co/Op Custodial Supplies Bid.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve Blake Hollman as a Fitness Center Clerk and Certified Lifeguard.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the following substitute pending fingerprint clearance:

RESOLVED that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent appoint the following individual as Chairman for our Annual Meeting to be held on May 10th and the Budget Vote and School Board Election being held May 17, 2016: Trina Miller Chairman ($40.00)

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent accept the resignation for retirement purposes of Dr. Jody Cave effective July 1, 2016 with sincere thanks and gratitude for her many years of service to the students and school community.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the use of school facilities (cafeteria, pool, gyms, elementary computer room) for the Village of Brocton and Town of Portland Summer Recreation Program to run tentatively from June 27 for 7 weeks.

Mr. DeJoe suggested that Board members read the Buffalo News concerning the Hamburg School District in regard to transgender students.
