BOARD ACTION EXHIBIT NUMBER2012-23
FINAL BOARD ACTION:October 10, 2012
Pierce College District Number Eleven
PIERCE COLLEGE 2012-2013
FEE INCREASES AND DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
Whereas, Pierce College District has been authorized by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges to serve as two of 55 General Education Development (GED®) testing locations in the state of Washington;
Whereas, the GED® remains the only nationally recognized high school equivalency credential;
Whereas, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges authorized testing centers to increase fees for individuals taking the full battery of five tests;
Whereas, the Department of Defense and Department of the Army have recently issued guidance concerning which fees may be reimbursed to students under the tuition assistance program;
Whereas, approximately two-thirds of courses offered through the military programs are online or distance learning courses;
Whereas, the online environment incurs unique costs not applicable to grounded courses and those costs have increased;
Now, therefore be it resolved, that effective October 10, 2012, Pierce College District will charge $150 to individuals signing up to take the full battery of GED tests.
Further, be it resolved, that Pierce College military programs may add a flat online/distance learning fee to each online course, in an amount equivalent to $8 per credit.
Also be it resolved that the Board of Trustees delegates to the Chancellor authority to approve fee increases not included in this action if they occur between now and the next scheduled date for fee action of May 2013 and if they represent new or increased pass-through costs. The Board also delegates to the Chancellor the authority to approve fee increases if required by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. The Chancellor will notify the Board when this authority has been exercised.
All other Board approved fees and waivers remain in effect as previously authorized.
