BLOOM’S TAXONOMY BOOK PROJECT
You will read a book your choice (fiction or nonfiction) and complete an activity from each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation). You will have a total of 6 activities to turn in.
Knowledge:- Write an acrostic poem using the title/character/theme.
- Make an A to Z list from your book.
- Construct a timeline relating to your book.
- Make a visual chart of things from your book. Write 5 words to describe each of them.
- Use your face to create some emotions you may have felt when reading your book, or emotions portrayed by a character.
- Make a list of new words (pronunciations and definitions) you’ve learned from the book.
- Name sounds you would hear in the text. Explain where in the text you would hear them.
- Work with someone reading the same book to make a list of the “Top 5” most important parts of the text.
- Write a learning log/journal response of what you have learned or gained from the book.
- Draw and write about your favorite part of the book.
Comprehension:
- Retell an interesting part of the book in your own words.
- Recount an experience you have had that relates to the book.
- Make a word search from the text.
- Write a setof true/false questions (10) about the book.
- Design a puzzle or maze that represents the main setting/topic of the text.
- Design and decorate a bookmark featuring the title, author and summary of your book. Pictures must relate to the book.
- Make a picture book/mural/poster/collage about your book.
- Act out movements from the book.
- Choose a passage from the book to read aloud and make sound effects with different objects to link with the text.
- With a partner or group, act out an important part from your book.
- With a partner, design a test for your book.
- Explain in a diary entry how the book made you feel.
Application:
- Did this book give you any new ideas about yourself? How?
- If you were in a problem situation like one in the book, how would you have acted? Be sure to tell what the situation is.
- What lesson did you learn from the story?
- Pretend you are one of the characters in the book. Write a diary entry about the happenings in your life for 2 consecutive days.
- Draw a plan/map to scale relating to your book.
- Write a radio advertisement for your book telling people why they should buy it. Refer to title and author.
- What was good and not so good about your book?

Analyze:- Compare and contrast: storylines, characters, etc. using a Venn Diagram.
- Design a survey and graph the results relating to your book.
- Design a new cover for your book. Make it visually appealing so it will attract readers. Refer to other book covers to see what to include.
- Write and present a play or skit about your book.
- Conduct an interview with someone who has also read your book. Take notes and present it to the class.
- Analyze a problem from the story from 2 different perspectives.
- If you met the author or a character from your book, what 5 questions would you most like to ask them?
- Pick one of the main characters. Think of a shape that fits that person’s traits. Draw the shape. Then describe the character inside the shape.
- Write a different ending to the book. Tell why you changed it.
- Tell five ways a character in your book is like you.
Synthesis:
- Write a short story using the characters from your book.
- Rewrite a scene from your book from another character’s perspective.
- Write a poem about your book.
- Make an eight section comic strip with captions showing the main events of the book.
- Design costumes for the characters in your book.
- Choose an interesting character from your book. Think of his/her likes and dislikes. Then think of a gift you would like to give him/her. Design a greeting card to go along with the gift in which you explain why you gave the gift.
- Create a board game about the book. Give it a name. Make the board, rules, etc. Teach and play it with a friend.
- Create a crossword puzzle for your book.
- Design a rap, dance or mime which displays your understanding of the book.
- Write a song or nursery rhyme with the same title as your book.
- Explain what you are still confused about/don’t understand from the book. Create a list of things that could help you better understand when reading.
Evaluation:
- Review the book from someone else’s perspective.
- Give your book a ranking or rating. Explain your choice.
- If you could only save one character from the book in the event of a disaster, which one would it be and why?
- Did you like the way the story ended? Why or why not?
- Who do you think the author intended to read this book and why?
- Is the title a good one or poor one? Why?
- Which character in the book would you choose for a friend? Why?
- Tell about the most exciting part of the book. Be sure to give 3 reasons why it was the most exciting.
- Write a book review of your book. Look for examples of book reviews in the newspaper or on-line.
- Choose a sound to represent each of the characters in the book. List them and tell why you chose that particular sound.
