BLOOM’S TAXONOMY BOOK PROJECT

You will read a book your choice (fiction or nonfiction) and complete an activity from each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation). You will have a total of 6 activities to turn in.

Knowledge:
  1. Write an acrostic poem using the title/character/theme.
  2. Make an A to Z list from your book.
  3. Construct a timeline relating to your book.
  4. Make a visual chart of things from your book. Write 5 words to describe each of them.
  5. Use your face to create some emotions you may have felt when reading your book, or emotions portrayed by a character.
  6. Make a list of new words (pronunciations and definitions) you’ve learned from the book.
  7. Name sounds you would hear in the text. Explain where in the text you would hear them.
  8. Work with someone reading the same book to make a list of the “Top 5” most important parts of the text.
  9. Write a learning log/journal response of what you have learned or gained from the book.
  10. Draw and write about your favorite part of the book.

Comprehension:
  1. Retell an interesting part of the book in your own words.
  2. Recount an experience you have had that relates to the book.
  3. Make a word search from the text.
  4. Write a setof true/false questions (10) about the book.
  5. Design a puzzle or maze that represents the main setting/topic of the text.
  6. Design and decorate a bookmark featuring the title, author and summary of your book. Pictures must relate to the book.
  7. Make a picture book/mural/poster/collage about your book.
  8. Act out movements from the book.
  9. Choose a passage from the book to read aloud and make sound effects with different objects to link with the text.
  10. With a partner or group, act out an important part from your book.
  11. With a partner, design a test for your book.
  12. Explain in a diary entry how the book made you feel.

Application:
  1. Did this book give you any new ideas about yourself? How?
  2. If you were in a problem situation like one in the book, how would you have acted? Be sure to tell what the situation is.
  3. What lesson did you learn from the story?
  4. Pretend you are one of the characters in the book. Write a diary entry about the happenings in your life for 2 consecutive days.
  5. Draw a plan/map to scale relating to your book.
  6. Write a radio advertisement for your book telling people why they should buy it. Refer to title and author.
  7. What was good and not so good about your book?

DUE: MAY 8th(20 points will be deducted after each day late)

Analyze:
  1. Compare and contrast: storylines, characters, etc. using a Venn Diagram.
  2. Design a survey and graph the results relating to your book.
  3. Design a new cover for your book. Make it visually appealing so it will attract readers. Refer to other book covers to see what to include.
  4. Write and present a play or skit about your book.
  5. Conduct an interview with someone who has also read your book. Take notes and present it to the class.
  6. Analyze a problem from the story from 2 different perspectives.
  7. If you met the author or a character from your book, what 5 questions would you most like to ask them?
  8. Pick one of the main characters. Think of a shape that fits that person’s traits. Draw the shape. Then describe the character inside the shape.
  9. Write a different ending to the book. Tell why you changed it.
  10. Tell five ways a character in your book is like you.

Synthesis:
  1. Write a short story using the characters from your book.
  2. Rewrite a scene from your book from another character’s perspective.
  3. Write a poem about your book.
  4. Make an eight section comic strip with captions showing the main events of the book.
  5. Design costumes for the characters in your book.
  6. Choose an interesting character from your book. Think of his/her likes and dislikes. Then think of a gift you would like to give him/her. Design a greeting card to go along with the gift in which you explain why you gave the gift.
  7. Create a board game about the book. Give it a name. Make the board, rules, etc. Teach and play it with a friend.
  8. Create a crossword puzzle for your book.
  9. Design a rap, dance or mime which displays your understanding of the book.
  10. Write a song or nursery rhyme with the same title as your book.
  11. Explain what you are still confused about/don’t understand from the book. Create a list of things that could help you better understand when reading.

Evaluation:
  1. Review the book from someone else’s perspective.
  2. Give your book a ranking or rating. Explain your choice.
  3. If you could only save one character from the book in the event of a disaster, which one would it be and why?
  4. Did you like the way the story ended? Why or why not?
  5. Who do you think the author intended to read this book and why?
  6. Is the title a good one or poor one? Why?
  7. Which character in the book would you choose for a friend? Why?
  8. Tell about the most exciting part of the book. Be sure to give 3 reasons why it was the most exciting.
  9. Write a book review of your book. Look for examples of book reviews in the newspaper or on-line.
  10. Choose a sound to represent each of the characters in the book. List them and tell why you chose that particular sound.
