Organization Support

Role: Office Assistant

Number of volunteers required: 1-4 (depending on time commitment of each)

Commitment: Weekly (4 hour time slots each) Our office is open M-F 9am-5pm.

Description of duties: BlazeSports has a busy day to day office and we are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks, including:

-  Reception/answering phones

-  Packing and organizing sport equipment

-  General office support – filing, photocopying, mailing

-  Special projects as needed

Role: Fundraising Committee Member

Number of volunteers required: 8

Commitment: Monthly meetings (1 hour) by conference call or at BlazeSports office

Description of role: Join the fundraising commitee, contribute ideas and help to organize events to meet fundraising goals.

Events

The Triumph of the Human Spirit Awards

Role: Organizing Committee for the “Triumph of the Human Spirit Awards”

Number of volunteers required: 2

Commitment: Monthly meetings (usually by conference call). Attend event if possible in early November (exact date TBD)

Description of duties: join our team of staff and board members to help organize this inaugural event celebrating the unique and inspirational aspects of sports for people with disabilities. The committee will make decisions and take responsibility for the organization of all aspects of this event.

About the Awards: The Triumph of the Human Spirit Awards will highlight and recognize the wonderful things that are being done in the adaptive/disability space by athletes, organizations, coaches, teams, volunteers and community leaders. Nominees, their families and special invited guests will attend the event for no charge making this event a celebration of accomplishment, recognition and heightened awareness.

Location: Meetings will be either by conference call or at the BlazeSports office in Norcross. Location for the event is TBD.

Youth Programs

BlazeSports Swim Program (for swimmers with physical and visual disabilities)

Role: Swim Assistant

Number of volunteers required: 8

Commitment: One season (6 sessions lasting 2 hours each)

Description of role: Volunteers will support our young and beginner swimmers in the water. Under the direction of our head coach they will help the swimmers float, take their 1st strokes and gain confidence in the water. Additional assistance is needed with registration and “tapping” swimmers with visual impairment.

Location: Agnes Scott College. 2nd Location TBD (starting in October)

BlazeSports Track and Field Program (for athletes with physical and visual disabilities)

Role: Sports Assistant

Number of volunteers required: 4

Commitment: weekly for 2 hours (time tbd) New Season starts September 2015

Description of duties: Volunteers with track and field experience are needed to assist the head coach with a variety of tasks including: helping the athletes into their track chairs, timing and recording track and field performances, setting up field events, providing coaching support during field events and providing overall support and encouragement to the athletes throughout practices.

Role: Buddy Runners

Number of volunteers required: 4

Commitment: weekly for 2 hours (time tbd) New Season starts September 2015

Description of duties: buddy runners will be paired with athletes with a visual impairment to guide them round the track. Running experience is desirable but not essential. Looking for people with lots of enthusiasm and good communications skills.

BlazeSports Wheelchair Basketball (for athletes with physical disabilities)

Role: Equipment Manager

Number of volunteers required: 1

Commitment: Weekly 1 hour

Description of role: Prepare all equipment for the start of each wheelchair basketball practice. Perform small chair adjustments and repairs (seating, straps, tires). Work with players to encourage them to be independent and learn to manage their own equipment.
