Education: / 1.  To be educated to A level standard in English Language OR equivalent work experience requiring the use of English Language to that level / a.  To hold a qualification relating to computer / communications technology or experience in the workplace of working with IT, digital media, social media or computer / communications networks.
b.  PIP Level 2 trained police investigator (or equivalent accreditation in other LEAs)
Work Experience: / 2. Demonstrate practical experience of working on a broad range of investigations, including some with a data and technology focus.
3 Demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of cyber and cyber enabled crime and the risks posed from such criminality, including a good knowledge and understanding of social media and the risks posed from the criminal use of the internet.
4. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, Data Protection and Human Rights Legislation and demonstrate a willingness to keep abreast of legislation, policy and procedures.
5. Demonstrate experience of different intelligence gathering methods
6. Be computer literate, have a knowledge of and ability to interrogate Force databases and demonstrate an interest in emerging technologies. / c.  Previous experience of working with IT, digital media, social media and networks.
d.  Experience in delivering programmes of change or implementing new ways of working

Role: / To provide technical advice and assistance regards digital investigations to officers engaged in the investigation of crime and incidents; to produce evidence in a form which is admissible in Court.
To position the organisation to provide an effective response to the threat posed by crime on the ‘Cyber Spectrum’ and the need for digital investigations as part of daily business.
Currently the Digital Media Investigation Unit operates between 0700 and 1800hrs Monday to Friday; these hours may be subject to change to meet demand. The post holder may also be required to perform on-call duties.
Duties / Responsibilities
Operational: / 1.  Production of written ‘Digital & Technology’ strategies in order to guide investigators across the force.
2.  (Following appropriate training) To undertake triage / examinations of devices e.g. mobile phones, tablets and computers
3.  (Following appropriate training) To survey digital networks e.g. wifi routers
4.  (Following appropriate training) To undertake Open Source Internet Research
5.  To advise and assist in the production of digital evidential packages; This will include the viewing (and potentially grading) of indecent images of children and related obscene imagery.
6.  Where appropriate to advise at, including possible attendance, crime scenes regards the recovery of digital evidence.
Communication: / 1.  Provide real-time & proactive support and advice regarding digital investigation strategies to officers and staff utilising all methods of communication, e.g. e-mail, telephone etc.
2.  Challenge, influence and successfully articulate rationale and considerations with fellow colleagues and senior officers
3.  Attend meetings as part of the investigative process
4.  Proactively highlight the roles and responsibilities of the DMI to the wider organisation as part of the communication strategy.
5.  Share knowledge with communications data users and other teams
6.  To present the results of research products to colleagues as required, including the submission of written reports.
7.  Maintain records.
