Program: Corporate Challenge

Background: The Corporate Challenge is a fundraising and fitness training program which partners corporations with athletic events and nonprofit organizations. This turnkey program allows corporations to start employee teams that will race in an athletic event of their choice while raising funds for a cause they champion. Employees receive all of the tips and tools needed to successfully raise funds online for charity while training for their respective athletic event.

Active Execution: Active Network, the leading online community for active lifestyles, partnered with the EAS America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K to implement the Corporate Challenge.

Objective: The program was implemented to generate a new revenue stream and awareness for the event, enhance the participant experience, encourage corporate wellness and raise more money for local and national nonprofit organizations. One of the main goals for many races is to bring more participants into their event. By implementing a program such as this, the event is able to reach out to an entirely new audience. By partnering corporations with nonprofits and using an event as a vehicle to raise funds, the event is able to not only tap into gaining corporate participation, but they are also able to gain participation from the constituent base of the nonprofit.

The Corporate Challenge provided EAS America’s Finest City Half Marathon & 5K with the following:

Creation of theCorporate Challenge page to live seamlessly into the event’s web site.

Fully designed online advertisements incorporating the event’s branding.

6-month marketing plan promoting the Corporate Challenge on event website and other advertising outlets.

Creation of two fully designed Corporate Challenge emails incorporating the event branding, delivered to the registered participant email list.

Creation of one fully designed special offers email promoting the Corporate Challenge to all Active.com athletes in San Diego.

Pre/post race event planning for all corporate teams.

Corporate teams participating in the Corporate Challenge received the following:

Customized 12-18 week training programs

Employee kick-off presentation

Employee communication & incentive materials

On-site training clinic from Roadrunner Sports

Results:

The Corporate Challenge generated over $85,500 for non-profit organizations who were the beneficiaries of corporate participation.

Active Network recruited 6 corporate teams: Cox Media, Vistage International, Active Network, Meritage Wine Market, MedAccess and Steren.

Over 250 people participated in the Corporate Challenge.

The program generated over $10,000 in additional profit for the event.

The charities that benefited from the Corporate Challenge included: Family Health Centers San Diego, Burnham Institute for Medical Research, MonarchSchool, American Melanoma Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and the Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego.
