Blaeser’s Bits

March 28 –April 15

Math

We finished the chapter on geometry and will have the test tomorrow. Students brought home their math book and vocabulary terms to study today. We will then begin Chapter 11 on measurement. We will learn about volume, capacity, and mass. We will also work on telling time to the minute and understanding elapsed time. I am starting with Lesson 5 and 6 and then going back to Lessons 1 – 4. I just wanted you to be aware of this. We will continue to work on our math facts and two-step word problems.

Language Arts

We will continue to work on main idea, supporting details, drawing conclusions, inferring, point of view, and author’s purpose. Please be sure your child is reading 20 -30- minutes each night. Ask a few questions after they finish reading to reinforce comprehension. We will have a Sort 23 spelling test on Friday of this week. The Sort 23 list is stapled to the HW packet in the students’ Take-Home Folder. This week, we are working on comparing and contrasting different reading passages as we practice for the Milestones. Students will be expected to answer constructed response questions along with multiple choice. This is true for math and language arts. Students need to be able to answer questions thoroughly with complete sentences.

Science

We started Chapter 4 on Heat in our Science book today. We will learn about heat this week, and we will learn about magnets the week we get back from Spring Break. We will not have a test on these two chapters until after the Milestones. We also have High Touch High Techtomorrow. The program will focus on heat and energy and will help the students better understand the concepts in this chapter.

Social Studies

We are currently learning about Lyndon B. Johnson. We started reading about him last week. We will have our test this Friday. The study guide and LBJ newsletter is stapled to the HW packet that was sent home today. It would be very helpful for students to read the biography on eduplace at home. We will be reading it at school, but time spent on this at home would also be helpful.

Notes and Reminders

A study packet for Science and Social Studies was sent home today. Students should keep this at home to study. This should help prepare them for the Milestones test. They will be returning the packet after the Milestones.

Instead of writing HW in the Assignment Book this week, I wrote it down for the whole week and stapled the Sort 23 words, the LBJ study guide, and the LBJ newsletter to it.

Milestones testing starts on April 13.
