The BMF is taken aback by the news that “KPMG elected to appoint a white male as the successor to its current black male CEO, Moses Kgosana”. It is 20-years into our democracy, and we still find ourselves trapped in the old thinking that there are no adequate black competent person to take KPMG to greater heights? This appointment is an illustration that the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is skewed towards entrenching the myth that there are no adequate black Chartered Accountants to deliver on the mandate of the companies.

KMPG contradicts its own transformation agenda. On one hand the company argues that it is committed to transformation by devoting to the creation of a culture of inclusion by encouraging people to be the best they can be, and then on the other hand, it decides to appoint a white male as the successor to the current black CEO.

KPMG’s Transformation journey paints a good story to tell as reflected in the Quarter report of 2013 “KPMG Transformation on Track”, but decided to destroy its own legacy by reversing the clock in this appointment.

The BMF can only express its disappointments in this new appointment but will closely look at the overall KPMG transformation plan at the senior level. It is our hope that the company would consider our radical way of:

  1. Reviewing of the effectiveness of voluntary targets versus set outcomes.
  2. Employment Equity Act to carry set outcomes for 2020, 2030 and 2050.
  3. A ‘graduation principle’ on certain designated groups, e.g. White Women.
  4. Review ‘Once Empowered, Always Empowered’ principle on the Financial Services Charter.
