Job description

Overall Aims:

To develop and deliver a culturally competent support service for people living with, and affected by, HIV who belong to black African or Caribbean (BAC) communities across London. The bulk of the role issupporting individuals 1-1 through casework, referrals and information; and through an HIV support group. The role also includes developing links within the community and statutory services, and running awareness-raising and information sessions to groups.

Background:

NAZ is the sexual health charity dedicated to people experiencing better sexual health. We do this because there’s a big gap in the sexual health outcomes of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities compared to the general population. Everything we do works to reverse this trend.

Main responsibilities of post:

  1. To co-ordinate, support and deliver HIV support servicesincluding one to one support, case work, advocacy and volunteer training

Client Support and Casework

  1. To provide information, referral and emotional support for individuals from a range of BAC communities living with and affected by HIV
  1. To advocate and refer on behalf of clients living with HIV with a range of voluntary and statutory agencies
  1. To plan, develop and co-ordinate a peer support group for black Africans living with HIV
  1. To support our choir for people living with HIV ‘Joyful Noise’
  1. To develop and encourage service user involvement from a diverse range of backgrounds
  1. Torecruit, train and supervise volunteers working within the HIV Support Services team

Community

  1. To develop good working relationships with other sexual health, HIV and community organisations in London – to encourage referrals to NAZ; and develop referral pathways for NAZ clients
  1. To promote our HIV support services for BAC communities through advertising, promotional materials and meetings
  1. To develop and increase confidence, awareness and knowledge levels of BAC communities around HIV and sexual health through delivering training sessions
  1. To represent NAZ at public events relative to the needs and concerns of BAC communities in London
  1. To deliver Rapid HIV Testing at the NAZ office and at outreach settings within the community; and attend monthly group supervision around testing. We will provide Rapid HIV Tester training
  1. To write articles for community media and NAZ social media on HIV and sexual health issues

Internal

  1. To prepare work plans and quarterly monitoring reports on project progress on reaching agreed targets and outcomes
  1. To manage and complete all record keeping/attendance figures; ensuring the maintenance of accurate records for purposes of evaluating and monitoring the project
  2. Keep up to date on issues related to HIV for BAC
  3. To attend team meetings regularly and other meetings as appropriate
  1. Document all client work in line with NAZ good practice, particularly with regard to confidentiality and data protection issues.
  2. To carry out the duties of the post with due regard to NAZ policies such as Equal Opportunities, child protection/safeguarding and health and safety
  3. The ability to work flexible hoursoutside of normal office hours with reasonable notice
  4. To carry out other duties as may be reasonably required
