I.  Overview

Articles 42.12 and 42.141 in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure relate to accreditation and regulation of intervention programs for family violence offenders.

In late 2007, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice–Criminal Justice Assistance Division (TDCJ-CJAD) formed a committee to examine the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP) Guidelines for program accreditation. The committee was comprised of representatives from funded and non-funded BIPP, family violence shelters, Community Supervision & Corrections Departments (CSCDs), TDCJ-Parole Division, Medical Examiners, Psychologists, Marriage & Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and other professionals.

Following the recommendations of the committee, TDCJ-CJAD and TCFV submitted a draft to the committee members, BIP programs, licensing authorities described by Chapters 152, 501, 502, 503 and 505, Occupations Code, and other stakeholders for their review and comments. The current BIPP Guidelines include revised materials directly integrated from those field comments.

*PDF File of Statute should be included in this area.

II. Overview of Application Process

TDCJ-CJAD executed the BIPP Accreditation Application Process. CJAD will facilitate the process and will collect the following documents which will serve to obtain probationary accreditation status. Application, supplemental materials, and a policies and procedure manual that meet BIPP Guideline standards require 100% compliance for Probationary Accreditation Status to be attained.

  1. Application Form
  2. Statement of Understanding
  3. Supplemental Material: Required Training Form
  4. Supplemental Material: Curriculum Tracking Form
  5. Polices and Procedures Manual, which complies with the BIPP Accreditation Guidelines

There is a one-time application fee of $300.

Please contact TDCJ-CJAD for details.

TCFV encourages your program to research its own training venues, contact your local family violence shelter or non-residential program that may provide other options for training.

Although not an exhaustive list, many CJAD approved trainings are indicated below. To obtain and maintain accreditation your program needs to obtain training approved by TDCJ-CJAD. For more details or for conference approval, please contact Brandi Lynn Burson, (512) 305-9344, .

If your community has a training opportunity that would assist professionals meet BIPP Accreditation Training Guidelines and would like to add it to the list below, please contact:
