Biology classroom expectations

Mr. Jeff Davidson

Philosophy:

This course is designed to strengthen your knowledge of various topics associated with Biological (Life) Science. Your willingness to commit to doing your absolute best will dramatically increase your chances of being successful. There will be many topics discussed throughout the next four quarters, some of which will be review while others will be heard and learned for the first time. Familiarizing yourself with words such as discipline, accountability, respect, and integrity will unquestionably contribute to your success this year…academically and non-academically.

ESTABLISH YOUR VISION

Class Activities and Lab Safety:

Students will be responsible for keeping an organized binder, participating in class activities/lab experiments, and completing homework, in-class assignments, projects, assessments, research, and frequent writing exercises. Students will also be completing the “Safety Contract”, which will require both student and parent signatures.

Required Materials:

  1. Writing utensil
  2. Paper
  3. 3-ring binder
  4. Signed safety contract & classroom rules

Evaluation:

Class averages are determined on a weighted system. Grades will determined based on:

  1. Homework, projects, labs = 30%
  2. Participation, class work = 20%
  3. Assessments (quizzes, tests) = 50%

Students may exempt the final exam based on Brookville school policy

Academic IntegrityCheating is a zero for that assignment/assessment, an office referral, and a parent contact.

Classroom Management:

  1. Follow all rules set forth by the teacher and found in the student handbook.
  2. Be productive- A’s will be earned and attributed to your work ethic
  3. Be respectful- there will be zero tolerance for immaturity
  4. Be accountable- you are responsible for your actions
  5. Be positive- “Negativity is Exhausting”
  6. Smart phones & electronic devices will ONLY be used with teacher permission

Home of the Blue Devils

Consequences:

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Seating adjustment
  3. Removal from class/office referral = ZERO credit for that day
  4. Detention
  5. Parent contact

*Tardy procedure will follow school policy

*Failure to bring class materials will result in a 10-point participation deduction

*Severe offenses will be referred to administration immediately

Make-up work:

Students are encouraged to find a study buddy who would be willing to provide details regarding missed assignments. Parents are encouraged to request assignments for their child through the high school office when prolonged absences occur. “Yellow” passes represent excused absences and students are granted the same number of days to turn in their work as they were absent. If you do not turn in your make-up work within the allotted timeframe, you will have until 7:45 AM the following day, where you can earn a maximum of 75%. Beyond 7:45 AM the following day, you will receive a zero for that assignment. Make-up work will NOT be accepted when students present “Blue” passes.
