Dear Dr. Yadav:

I wish to collaborate with you at the Fort Valley State University (FVSU), Georgia, Agriculture Research Station, in establishing an interdisciplinary Bioinformatics Training Program there. A suitable subcontractor clause will need to be negotiated between FVSU and FSU, to allow my participation though, since I am a Florida State University (FSU) faculty member. My FSU contract is nine months long, and, therefore, summer collaborations could exist independent of a need for FSU subcontractor status. However, subcontractor status will allow my interaction with FVSU throughout the academic year, as well as allow FVSU legal access to FSU’s systems and databases.

As a collaborator in FVSU’s bioinformatics training initiative, I will provide FVSU consultative and instructional services in the fields of sequence analysis, genomics, and molecular phylogenetic inference. I will recommend software and hardware solutions for establishing the training program; I will help design and implement appropriate curricula for the program; and I will help train FVSU faculty and staff in the necessary bioinformatics skills to make such an educational program successful.

Refer to my curriculum vitae at http://bio.fsu.edu/~stevet/cv.html, to ascertain my qualifications for participation in this collaboration.

As an independent contractor during the three summer months, d.b.a. BioInfo 4U, separate from FSU, I charge $50/hr, including development time. A typical four-hour workshop could cost up to $2000 starting from scratch. This would be the case for any summer collaboration outside of my FSU contract. Collaboration during the academic year will need to be covered under FVSU-FSU subcontractor status. Details of this FSU subcontractor contract with FVSU will need to be negotiated between the appropriate university offices. My travel compensation should occur at standard state mileage and per-diem rates regardless of contract origin.

Sincerely, Steve
