BILINGUAL (SPANISH/ENGLISH) INTAKE COORDINATOR & TESTING ASSISTANT

New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Bilingual (Spanish/English) Intake Coordinator & Fair Housing Project Testing Assistant.

Responsibilities: Work with low-income Spanish speaking people seeking legal help with housing evictions and discrimination complaints. The Intake Coordinator will work primarily with NHLA’s Fair Housing Project. The Coordinator will assist NHLA’s Fair Housing Project in managing its testing program. In addition, the Intake Coordinator will also provide Spanish-language interpretation and document translation in support of NHLA’s overall legal work.

Background: Recognized nationally for our achievements, NHLA has a proud history of aggressive, creative advocacy for low-income and elderly clients in federal and state courts, as well as legislative and administrative forums. Because NHLA does not receive federal Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funding, we are not subject to LSC’s restrictions on lobbying, class action litigation or welfare reform work. NHLA’s resources are primarily focused on housing, health, income benefits, elder law, domestic violence, and public utilities. NHLA operates five branch law offices and a number of statewide projects. NHLA’s Fair Housing Project has been in operation for almost 20 years representing clients who have been victimized by discrimination as well as providing fair housing training and systemic advocacy.

Qualifications: A history of working with the public in the non-profit, social services or similarsector, particularly in communications, program intake and/or advocacy work. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writingin both English and Spanish is required.Interpreter certification preferred. Preference is given to those demonstrating a commitment to civil rights, economic justice and working with low-income people. Knowledge of housing discrimination law and fair housing testing a plus.

Salary/Benefits: Salary DOE. Excellent benefits, including medical and dental insurance, retirement plan. This is a full time position, however, highly qualified applicants seeking part time work will be considered.

NHLA has offices in Berlin, Claremont, Manchester, Concord, and Portsmouth. This particular staff position will most likely be based in Concord or Manchester. It would start on or after April 1, 2016.
