Wheels
Bikes, Skateboards, Scooters …anything with “wheels”
Dear Families,
“Wheeling” has been a long tradition in getting to school. As always, safety of students riding wheels as well as the security of valuable “wheels” is important. Please make sure to go over these expectations with your child.
Wheel Expectations:
- Students in grades 4 and 5 may ride “wheels” to school with parental permission.
(Please send a note to your teacher if your child has permission to wheel to school)
2.Students are to obey all safety guidelines and wear a helmet.
- “Wheels” should be walked on the school grounds (no skateboarding or bike riding on school grounds during arrival or dismissal).
- “Wheels” are used for transportation and may not be used for play before, during, or after school. Students must head directly home after school. (Wheels in shoes must be removed during the school day).
- Students must obey the directions of adults, school safety patrols and wear helmets.
- Students need to lock all “wheels” outside on the bike racks; we do not have a secure place to store “wheels” in the school building. If your child is skateboarding to school, please see Mr. Butters in the PE office.
Please remember, we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Failure to follow these expectations will result in losing the privilege of having wheels at school.
Arrival and Dismissal
School Hours
9:15 – 3:40
Before School
Walkers:
Please do not come to school before 9:00 a.m. There is no supervision before this time. At 9:00 students are allowed on the playground and may begin lining up.
Bus Riders:
The bus will drop you off in front of the school, please enter through the main doors and go directly to class or to breakfast.
Drop Off:
You may drop your children at the curb (parking lot off Spruce Place) between 9:00 and 9:15 where they can walk directly to class or to breakfast. For obvious safety reasons, please drop students on curb side (exit the car towards the sidewalk). Do not let children cross traffic. Our parking lot is ONE-WAY, so please always enter off of Grand Ave and exit on the West end. Be sure to drive slowly and with caution.
After School
Walkers:
Students need to leave school and head directly home. Students are not permitted to stay on the playground.
Fast Pass:
With parent/guardian permission, pick up students have an option called Fast Pass. Fast Pass students are students who are picked up every day by a parent/guardian and will be dismissed with neighborhood walkers at 3:35. They will gather in the Spruce Place foyer (old front doors) where they will wait until their ride arrives at the curb. When their ride arrives, they will be able to go directly to the curb to meet their ride. Students will not be allowed to cross the parking lot without a parent/guardian. Please do not leave cars parked on the curb with the Fast Pass system. Keep the line moving up and DO NOT form two lanes or make U-turns and always exit at the West end. Please remember that students are present and always drive slowly and with caution.
Student Pick Up:
Parents who wish to pick up their children will need to park in the Spruce Place parking lot and come in to the cafeteria to pick-up their child at 3:35. Because of congestion, parents will not be allowed in the classroom area between 3:30 and 3:45. Students will meet their parents in the cafeteria. If picking up before 3:30 parents/guardians will need to check their child out in the office and sign them out.
Please note that we cannot let students go home with other students without written permission. Please have these arrangements made prior to the start of the school day. Please also have transportation arrangements made in advance. Phone calls to the office for transportation changes may only be done in emergency situations.
All students will be sent home via their regular routine unless we have written note.
