The World Language Department adheres to the policies of Brooks College Preparatory Academy. Please carefully read the handbook to ensure a wonderful school year.
Brooks is transitioning to a standards based grading system and as such, assessments will be the main factor for determining quarter and semester grades. By providing an email address, you will receive a link from Mastery Connect where you will be able to check your child’s progress. The daily formative assessments on MC and from class are meant as practice for the summative assessments that will occur once or twice per quarter. By tracking progress of skills’ acquisition in Mastery Connect, completion of homework in Impact, and feedback from other formative assignments, you and your student will never be surprised by a summative assessment grade.
Homework is practice, but the assignments will be listed in Impact. If your child has correctly completed an assignment, he / she will receive an E, for excused. If there is no E, you should encourage your child to complete the assignments. In order to earn the right to redo a summative assessment (chapter tests, essays, or project) if a student wants to improve his / her grade, the student must complete, with substantial attention to correctness, all of the practice and formative assessments, daily intervention, and other assignments deemed necessary within one week of the return of the corrected assessment. The student must then make an appointment to redo the summative assessment for full credit.
