Bibliography and Works Cited Information
What is a bibliography?
A bibliography is an alphabetized list of all the sources you have used in your research. This may include books, websites, pamphlets, newspaper and/or magazine articles, interviews, images and/or art pieces and so on.
What is a Works Cited page?
A Works Cited Page is commonly used when you are writing a report or an essay. It is an alphabetized list that ONLY identifies the sources that you actually used in your final paper as opposed to a bibliography, which identifies ALL of the sources you used in your research.
Why do I need a bibliography or works cited page?
You must acknowledge other peoples’ ideas, thoughts and work as it is not your own. If you use somebody else’s ideas, you must give credit to that author or organization. A bibliography and/or works cited page shows that you have done a good job of researching the best work that has been done on your topic so you are now familiar and well versed on your topic of study.
How do I create a bibliography?
In Geography, we typically use a format known as APA, or American Psychological Association. The bibliography appears on its own page, at the end of your project. You can create a bibliography manually or using an online digital tool such as those listed below. If you would like to make your list manually, ask the teacher for a copy of the instructions. Otherwise, follow the instructions on the online bibliography maker.
Please note that you do not need to sign up for these sites. Make your entry and then simply cut and paste it into your document.

What if I don’t have the information the website is requesting, like the author’s name or publication date?
If you do not have the information you are required to fill in on the online template, include as much as you can. If you do not know the author or organization that has produced the material, you should revisit the source to verify that it has been peer reviewed and is a legitimate source.
