A NOTE FROM KAREN

Hi guys, I hope you are all well. It definitely feels and looks like autumn whilst I'm sat typing this, those poor ponies out with fly sheets on.

I'm saddened to say that due to work commitments Pippa Langdon has stepped down from the committee and will no longer be doing the newsletter. I would like to thank Pippa for all of the hard work and commitment she gave the club. I would like to wish her luck for the future and we look forward to hearing about your adventures with Treacle.

The next talk is on the 8th August and is being given by Dengie - Harry the gut at the Ship, look forward to seeing you all there. Friends and family are welcome to our meetings but from September I’m afraid we have decided to charge non members £2 entry to talks as many speakers charge for their time or ask for a donation to their favourite charity.

If you have any ideas about talks or visits you would like please let myself or any member of the Committee know. Thank you to the members who e-mailed their views about the future of the club recently.

Fingers crossed for better weather and plenty of riding. Stay safe

LAST MEETING: The Quiz

Our July meeting was a Quiz Night, we had a fair turn out, lovely to see you all. I was in a team this time, I'm usually on my own,’Billy no mates’, but this time I was adopted into the ‘Clueless’ team, we were the only team with five members, ‘cheat’ I hear you cry, but hey, it was no advantage, we still came in last. Our quiz master was Jan Whitfield, and what a stirling job she did, it's not easy to set a quiz that keeps the teams interested, not too easy, not too hard, so a big thank you Jan, well done you. Congratulations to the winning team, Elaine, Terri, Cindy and Anne, very well done to you too. Quiz night is always an entertaining evening and we look forward to the next time, don't forget our club nights are open to non members too.
Cheers
Joan X

NEXT MEETING: Harry the Gut

Our next meeting will be a talk by Andrea Watson on the horses’ digestive system.
With help from a model, known as ‘Harry the Gut’ we’ll be guided through every stage of the digestive process from the moment it goes in til it comes out. Andrea will talk about the correct way to feed horses doing various competitions and disciplines from jumping to the happy hacker, or even the retired.
Dengie’s website says this is an exciting, interactive opportunity that allows us to get a better understanding of how what we feed out horses can affect them both inside and out. So come along and find out! From the photo on the right it looks like a good laugh. /

CLUB LIBRARY

We resurrected the Club Library a couple of years ago.Several of us put in a lot of time sorting out and categorisingall the books (there are over 100 covering many equine topics)and at first there was quitea bit of interest. Sadly over the following year itdwindled to no books being borrowed at all. I eventually felt it was not worth my while getting to meetings early to put the books out and staying later to put them away. So the library hasn't been put out for about a year now.

The Committee have decided that the best option is to sell the books as there doesn’t seem to be a need for the Library anymore. These will be offered to members to buy at Club meetings. Please take a look and if you would like to buy a book or twothere will be an honesty box to put your money in on the table with the books. We suggest a price of 50p for paperbacks & smaller booksand £1.00 for hardbacks& bigger books. All proceeds will go back into Club funds.
