Welcome to our new school year! This communication is to inform you of what class materials you will need, how you will be graded, what our class norms are, and how to contact me. Please read carefully!

Class Materials: Please bring to class by Monday Sept 13: 1) six pocket folder of different colors with clasps, 2) a package of 5 dry erase markers, preferably black, and 3) $5 material fee payable to ASB (to pay for materials in lieu of a workbook)

Grading: Your grade will be based mainly on your performance on tests, quizzes, compositions and presentations. This will be 80% of your grade. You will also have a grade on assignments (home and class work) which will be 20% of your grade. You will be able to make up most major tests, provided that you have done all your assignments.

Grading scale: 93-100% A, 90-92% A-, 87-89% B+, 83-86% B, 80-82% B-, 77-79% C+, 73-76% C, 70-69% C-, 67-69% D+, 63-66 % D, 60-63% D-, <60%=F

Class Norms: These are the simple and clear expectations in our class.

1. Punctuality. Class instruction starts when the bell rings. Please be seated and ready to go at this time. Class is dismissed by the teacher, not the bell. Please complete assignments on time.

2. Preparation: Come to class prepared to learn with assignments finished and supplies at hand.

3. Participation: Language is learned by participation. Actively and eagerly participate in all activities in and out of class. Discipline yourself to speak French or German as much as possible.

4. Politeness: Respect of students, teacher and property is expected at all times. Respect of anyone who is speaking to the class is obviously required.

Cell phones: Your cell phones cannot be used, seen or heard during class time. You may not accept or initiate calls or texts during class. Parents: please realize that your student may not be contacted during instructional time. Thanks.
