Recognizing and Supporting Academic Achievement
PURPOSE
Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church Scholarship Committee is seeking to recognize and financially support college-bound high school seniors, as well as students presently enrolled in college, who desire to further their educational studies. Funds have been generated to provide scholarship awards in the amounts of $500.00 to persons attending an accredited two-year Educational program and $1,000.00 to persons attending an accredited four-yearEducational program. Students who complete their First year and have a 2.5 G.P.A. (4.0 scale) are eligible to receive subsequent Awards. Part-Time Undergraduate Students (taking at least 6 hrs) ~ $250.00, Part-Time Graduate Students (6 – 11 hrs) ~ $500.00, and Full-Time Graduate Students (12 hrs plus) ~ $1,000.00.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants for the BethelA.M.E.Church Scholarship must meet the eligibility requirements below. In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants should:
Hold full membership at BethelA.M.E.Church and have attended for at least one year.
Possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Have demonstrated academic excellence, as well as outstanding service and leadership in the Church, community and workplace (if applicable)
Have made plans to attend or is already attending an Accredited Undergraduate two or four-year University or College, Trade School, TechnicalSchool or other institution of higher learning.
Have made plans to attend school as a full-time (12 hours plus or criteria as established by respective institution) or part-time (6 to 11 hours or criteria as established by respective institution) student.
Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, administrator or advisor from their respective institution of learning.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on:
Academic performance
Leadership in church, school and community activities
A 500 – 700 word essay outlining career aspirations
SELECTION PROCEDURE
COMPLETED applications must be submitted to BethelA.M.E.Church Scholarship Committee no later than June 2ndof the current year. Applicants will be judged against the program criteria by a selection committee determined by BethelA.M.E.Church Scholarship Committee.
