 INDIVIDUAL TROPHIES: Overall Maine Championship trophies will be awarded for the following:

 First Overall (perpetual)

* First woman (perpetual)

* First youth <18 (perpetual)

 TEAM TROPHY:

* First team (perpetual) combined: adult male, adult female and youth (male or female)

 FEES: $15 per event including lunch & water.

 RULES: US Sailing 2009-2012 – NO PROTESTS PLEASE - These are FUN events.

 EQUIPMENT: You are NOT REQUIRED to have class legal sails, rigging or ILCA Membership.

 SAFETY: PFD’s REQUIRED unless specified by the Race Committee.

2011 MAINE LASER CHAMPIONSHIP

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

REGATTAS: The following, one day regattas shall count towards the championship.

- PORTLAND: Portland Harbor (Sail Maine) – Sunday June 26th, 2011

- HARPSWELL: Clarks Cove – Saturday July 16th, 2011

- BELFAST: Belfast Harbor – Saturday August 20th, 2011

-MANCHESTER: Lake Cobbosseecontee – Saturday, September 17th, 2011

- THOMASTON: St. George River – Sunday, October 16th, 2011

RULES: The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 (except as amended)

ENTRIES & FEES:

-Entry is open to all Laser sailors regardless of Maine residence. Participants under 18 years of age must complete a parental permission slip provided by the regatta organizers.

-Each regatta is $15 including lunch & water. Entries will be taken on the event day only.

Six races are scheduled per regatta. (more or fewer races will be held at RC discretion)

STARTING SIGNALS: (US Sailing Rules Appendix S)

- Attention = multiple short blasts (3 minute signal to follow)

- 3 minutes = 3 long blasts

- 2 minutes = 2 long blasts

- 1.5 minutes = 1 long blast followed by 3 short blasts

- 1 minute = 1 long blast

- 30 seconds = 3 short blasts

- 20 seconds = 2 short blasts

- 10 seconds = 1 short blast

- 5 sec = 1 short blast

- 4 sec = 1 short blast

- 3 sec = 1 short blast

- 2 sec = 1 short blast

- 1 sec = 1 short blast

- start = 1 long blast

Amendments:

- General Recall (restart) = multiple short blasts immediately following the start

(return to start area and wait for 3 minute warning)

- OCS ( 1 boat over the line early) = 1 short blast immediately following the start

- Abandonment (end of racing) = 3 long blasts (repeated several times)

- Mark change (during a race) = 2 long blasts.

PROTESTS:

Participants may exonerate themselves from a foul by completing a 360 degree turn as soon as possible after the foul and before the next mark. THE ORGANIZERS REQUEST NO WRITTEN PROTESTS. However, in the event of a collision causing damage or injury a protest will be heard in accordance with The Racing Rules or Sailing 2009-2012. Protest forms must be delivered the RC within 30 minutes of the race committee boat docking.

SCORING:

The INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP is scored by adding the 3 best final place finishes of any of the 5 regattas. In cases of a tie the number of points accumulated will be used. If a tie is still present then the number of 1sts, 2nds and 3rds will be used. Six races are scheduled per regatta. Your best five races are counted per regatta. If fewer than five races are sailed, then all races are counted. One race constitutes a regatta. The low point scoring system is used.

The FLEET CHAMPIONSHIP is scored by adding the Individual Championship scores (see above) of the top finishing adult male, adult female and youth (male or female) from each Laser Fleet.

AWARDS:

-OVERALL INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP: trophies will be awarded for the following:

* First Overall (perpetual)

* First Woman (perpetual)

* First Youth <18 (perpetual)

-OVERALL FLEET CHAMPIONSHIP: (perpetual) Best combined score of the top finishing adult male, adult female and youth (male or female) from each Laser Fleet.

AGE:

If a youth turns 18 between the first and last regatta sailed, they will be scored as an adult.

EQUIPMENT:

-You are NOT REQUIRED to have class legal sails, rigging or ILCA Membership.

- Participants may switch between Full, Radial & 4.7 rig sail as long as sail #s match

- All sails must have some unique sail #.

SAFETY:

-Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) are to be worn at all times on the water unless specified by the Race Committee (RC).

-A bow line (painter) attached to the bow is required for all races.

-Regatta staff may request individual participants to cease racing for safety reasons.
