Dear Yellow Jacket!

Congratulations on a successful finish to your middle school career! We are so excited that you will be joining us at Bessemer City High School in 2017-2018! You are about to find out why we call ourselves the best kept secret in Gaston County! In order to help ease your transition from middle to high school, we have a freshman transition camp scheduled that will answer your questions, make you feel comfortable and get your high school career off to a great start! So, mark your calendars and save the date:

Tuesday, August 15, 2016 from 9:00am – 12:30pm. (Parent sessions from 8:30-9:00, and from 12:30-1:00)

During this camp you’ll get find your way around the building, meet a variety of our staff, including many freshman teachers, and learn about many different aspects of high school. The camp will address the following topics:

●Class of 2021 “Focus on Graduation:” High School Grading/Attendance policies; What are credits and transcripts; Principals’ tips for success!

●In the hot seat! Discipline is different in high school. Learn how high school discipline works, how to avoid getting in trouble and how we can help you stay on the right track!

●You’re not alone! Hear about our support services that can help you when you need it! (School counselors, school social worker, the school nurse

●Where is...EVERYTHING?! A student led school tour

●Get involved! The best part of high school are the opportunities outside of class! Clubs, Athletics, pep rallies, the Jacket Pride program etc.

We will also have a session just for our parents from 8:30-9:00 and again from 12:30-1:00. The NC Driving School will also be on site at 12:00pm to register you for driver’s ed (be sure to be here, those spots go FAST). The agenda for the day is included with this letter. You don’t want to miss this!

*This session is repeated at the beginning and end to allow for parents to come at the beginning or the end, the information is the same. This session is optional for parents but highly encouraged!
