VISITOR GUIDE

BELWADE FARM VISITOR CENTRE

Reports to:Centre Manager. Day to day supervision will be carried out by the Centre Promotions Officer

Department Overview

Belwade Farm is one of the Charity’s four Rescue & Rehoming Centres. The Visitor Centre plays an integral part in the charity’s strategy of raising its profile and promoting the essential work that the charity carries out around the world as well as raising funds to support its work.

The principle roles of this post are:

  • To deliver a memorable and enjoyable visitor experience which demonstrates to visitors therange of work the Charity does, including the challenges we face in rescuing and rehoming horses.
  • To assist the Centre Promotions Officer and Centre Manager in the development and delivery of a range of fun and elementary educationalequine based experiencesin close partnership with the working farm.
  • To maximise every opportunity to capture visitor data in compliance with data protection regulations in order to develop our relationship.
  • To assist the Centre Promotions Officer in their role of promoting the work of World Horse Welfare and in particular to encourage visitors to become loyal supporters of the Charity’s work.
  • To be a member of a committed team and an ambassador for the charity.

Key Relationships

The Visitor Experience Officer will work closely with:

  • The Centre Promotions Officer
  • The Centre Manager and Assistant Centre Manager at Belwade Farm
  • Belwade Farm staff

Duties

  • To assist the Centre Promotions Officer in the meeting and greeting of all visitors.
  • Deliver a range of pre-organisedfun and educational activities to include tours and talks for visitors.
  • Manage the visitor experience online booking system.
  • Work with the Centre Promotions Officer with the on-going design and plan of new visitor experience activities, including the development and updates of required materials.
  • Assist Belwade yard staff with the care and preparation of the visitor experiences pony/ies, ensuring they are always available, fit and presentable for duties.
  • Assist the Centre Promotions Officer in promoting the charity’s core products including membership, adoption scheme, junior club, friends of the farm and any other relevant activities.
  • Assist the Centre Promotions Officer in increasing the charity’s supporter database through promotions and visitor data collection.
  • Keep up to date the information/stories of equines currently on the farm.
  • Promote the charity’s objectives to all visitors in an accurate and engaging manner.

Other duties and responsibilities

  • To undertake other job related tasks as directed by the Centre Manager or the Centre Promotions Officer.

Health & safety

  • To comply with the policies of World Horse Welfare to ensure that risks within the working environment are reduced as low as reasonably practicable.
  • To comply with relevant current health and safety legislation.
  • To ensure that the health and safety of visitors and staff is paramount at all times.
  • To raise any health and safety concerns with the Centre Promotions Officer, Centre Manager, or the Health & Safety Officer based at Head Office.

PERSON SPECIFICATION (E – essential, D – desirable)

Knowledge/Experience:

  • In depth and technical equine knowledge and experience(E)
  • Working within the tourist industry (D)
  • Delivery of a variety of visitor activities(D)
  • Computer literate – proficient using word and a variety of on line media(E)
  • Health & Safety Level 3 or similar (D) – training can be provided

Skills:

  • Personable, professional and approachable with the ability to deal with a variety of people especially children(E)
  • Highly organised with the ability to plan ahead(E)
  • Excellent oral and written communication (E)

Personal Attributes:

  • Interest and empathy with the aims, activities and pragmatic welfare approach of the charity (E)
  • Self-motivated, able to adapt to change and take a flexible approach to workload and hours, which may involve some evenings (E)
  • Team player with a professional and presentable appearance (E)
