Purpose of Job / Some Space offers support to adult Camden residents who are affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. Our aim is to help a family member, a partner or a friend to regain control over their life, whether or not the drug or alcohol user is also receiving help.
The Family Recovey worker will offer brief intervention sessions, up to 12 weeks of counseling therapy and group support, offering the clients “Some Space” where they can find advice, information and emotional support.
In addition the post requires involvement in the service development and promotion amongst Camden relevant services, and delivering educational workshops to clients of partnership agencies around family issues.
Scope / ·  Promote healthier life styles and increase service user choice
·  Support individuals into discovering their own understanding of recovery
·  Promote service user involvement and support the development of service user communities across Camden Services
·  Work with partnership organisations to develop and sustain effective support pathways.

Key Activities:

Below is a non- exclusive list of key activities.

·  Manage a case load of clients

·  Deliver a range of family recovery focussed interventions, including group work, 1:1, counselling and brief interventions to service users across CRI Camden drug services

·  Provide satellite services at a range of external partner agencies.

·  Provide effective case management and coordination covering areas of risk, housing, social functioning, employability, psychological and physical health.

·  Using therapeutic skills and techniques in both one-to-one and group settings to promote engagement in treatment services, to encourage self-esteem, well-being, self-responsibility and enhanced motivation.

·  Carry out client assessments of risks, client’s needs and suitability for counselling.

·  Work with service users in a holistic way ensuring that their needs are met, including areas such as child protection, housing, medical, criminal justice and mental health including referrals to appropriate services and joint working arrangements

·  Provide accurate advice and information that promotes healthy living, and brings understanding of addiction, its potential risks and difficulties for both the user and family members.

·  Regularly use IT systems including Word; Outlook; electronic case management systems etc

·  To utilise a flexible approach and where required participate in activities and tasks which directly respond to client and service need.

·  To actively promote equality of opportunities and diversity

·  Ensure that all data requirements are met within deadlines

·  Actively participate in regular supervision and be willing to personally reflect on interpersonal dynamics within service user relationships alongside other supervision requirements as detailed in CRI policy.

·  Work evenings and Saturday shifts as required

In carrying out the above duties the post holder will:

·  Work flexibly across operational sites as required.

·  Work flexibly within an agreed number of hours of work to maintain the most appropriate level of service provision.

Essential criteria

Qualifications:

·  Qualified counsellor/psychotherapist to a min Diploma level (or working towards qualification, if supported by other significant experience form the list below)

·  Member of BACP or other equivalent professional body

Experience:

·  Substantial experience of 1-2-1 therapeutic work with variety of issues

(Evidence of min.200 hours of supervised practice)

·  Carrying independent case load

·  Working with vulnerable clients from various backgrounds

·  Carrying out initial assessment of risk including safeguarding , and of suitability for counselling

·  Facilitating groups

·  Experience of delivering group work programmes

·  Experience of effective partnership working including contributing to multi-agency care plans and conferences

·  Experience of service promotion and outreach activities in order to engage with clients

·  A knowledge of performance management and meeting demanding targets

·  The ability to maintain timely, accurate and comprehensive records / data collection on clients, as required by PHE and CRI performance frameworks and reporting requirements.

·  Demonstrable experience of managing safeguarding procedures including working with vulnerable adults and families where children are at risk

·  Experience of working with service users who can demonstrate challenging behaviour and hard to engage groups.

·  Understanding of systemic approaches in work with families

·  Understanding of addiction theories and treatment approaches

·  Understanding of legislative, funding and policy frameworks relevant to the provision of services for families affected by problem drinking.

Desirable criteria

Qualifications:

ü  BACP or BPS accredited

ü  Qualification in Systemic therapy

Experience

ü  Working therapeutically with couples and/ or families

ü  Working in a therapeutic setting with clients affected by substance misuse

ü  Experience in delivering systemic interventions

Knowledge and skills:

ü  Ability to use effectively social media to promote the service

ü  Knowledge of local services and geography

ü  Knowledge and understanding of mindfulness based cognitive therapies

ü  Knowledge and understanding of non-violent communication approach
