Name______

Date: the week of January 24th, 2017.

Please record your practice time every day and turn in the journal, signed by a parent,

Tuesday, January 31st, 2017.

Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun / Mon
Start of practice session:
Do the playing Workouts on page 17 by adjusting your arm and shadow bowing on your D and A strings (G string for bass).
Think of moving your arm/elbow to different levels for different strings!
Stretches and memorization: BEFORE you continue the rest of your practice, spend some time every day doing the arm stretches. Play line 45 and take a mental picture the note names for each note (try hard not to write them in!).
Lesson Book: Practice lines #53-61. Push fingers into the fingerboard to get a good arco sound and make sure your fingers are on the tape. Listen and adjust if you hear a note that sounds weird!
Other practicing: music for fun, private lesson material, etc.

Over, please >

This is an exciting week of progress for our young musicians. We will work towards mastering bowing on the open strings and work on playing notes on the open strings while adding fingers from the left hand. Ask your student to demonstrate this for you. Please continue to encourage regular practice routines. Thank you!

¡Gracias!

Date: the week of January 28th, 2014.

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014.

Tue / Wed / Thu / Fri / Sat / Sun / Mon
Start of practice session:
Practice the rhythms for #68, 72, and 77. Play them on any open string (you can try the others this week!).
Be aware of your whole body’s playing position-arm levels for different strings, left hand, elbow height, bow hold, fingers curved over strings.
Stretches and memorization: BEFORE you continue the rest of your practice, spend some time every day doing the arm stretches I showed you in class. Then, EVERY time you practice, play through the D major scale (line #64) and start to MEMORIZE it.
Lesson Book: Practice lines #75-86. Remember that the new HALF NOTE rhythms use a slower bow. You will have another playing quiz this week on line 76. The quiz will be on Thursday.
Other practicing: music for fun, private lesson material, etc.

This is an exciting week of progress for your young musicians. They will learn about another new rhythmic pattern (half notes) and begin practicing playing with their 4th finger, which is a more advanced string playing technique. They will have a playing quiz and they will be assessing and giving each other feedback (with my guidance)! Please continue to encourage regular practice routines.
