Overview & Purpose The course work for music theory, vocal technique, sight-reading, solo and choral repertoire, and music appreciation run simultaneously.

MUSIC FUNDAMENTALS/MUSIC THEORY
Master Theory is a six-part series that begins with the basics and progresses through advanced harmony and arranging. Each book is complete text and workbook in itself containing 30 short lessons and assignments. Most work can be completed outside band rehearsals at the student's own pace. Review and grading can be done in less than 5 minutes of class time. This combination of home study plus just a few minutes of rehearsal time for theory will produce amazing results in a very short time.
Music Ace I and II software is engaging, self-paced lessons that accelerate development and reinforce fundamental music skills and an understanding of music theory. Lessons cover: Staff & keyboard relationship, Pitch identification, Note reading, Listening skills, Sharps & flats, Intro to key signature, Keyboard basics, Major scales, Octaves, Treble, bass & grand staff, and Whole & half steps. Music Ace II is the second title in the highly-acclaimed Music Ace series from Harmonic Vision. It is designed for beginning and intermediate students and features 2,000 musical examples. Music Ace 2 complements the original Music Ace product by introducing standard notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, intervals and much more.
VOCAL TECHNIQUE
Lutgen Vocalises are designed specifically for improving voices. The exercises are recorded in 3 musical keys so the vocalist can strengthen the voice and still develop their lower vocal range. There are a total of 20 exercises. Includes sheet music in one key range, instruction and a training practice log to help stay focused.
SIGHT-READING
Patterns of Sound uses excellent voice leading, careful sequencing and musically interesting exercises that can be combined to strengthen part singing, pitch relationships and to develop rhythmic independence. Volume 1 starts from square one, assuming no previous training, with exercises that are so carefully sequenced that the students are quickly singing four-measure phrases and eight measure songs in two parts and finding it easy! Students are introduced to notes, rests, meter, pitch and unison/2-part songs in Vol. 1, and continue in Vol. 2 with dotted rhythms & syncopation, keys & key changes and more 2-part songs. Use it every day and watch your students' confidence level grow! The Choral Approach to Sight-Singing is by Emily Crocker and Joyce Eilers. Here is an exciting easy-to-use sight-singing method for middle school/jr. high choirs that starts from square one, assuming no previous training. It is presented in a logical, sequenced order, with harmonically combinable exercises to develop rhythmic and melodic independence. The collection offers a variety of a cappella and accompanied songs for 3-Part Mixed voices in two sequenced volumes. Volumes I and II are available in Teacher's Edition and Singer's Edition, and contain complete vocal and piano parts. The Teacher's Edition additionally includes complete instruction for use of the method! For Gr. 6-9.
