Becoming Trauma Informed - Part I

Becoming Trauma Informed was designed by the Multiplying Connections initiative, a collaborative project building capacity for trauma informed care in the public children’s services system. Becoming Trauma Informed is presented by members of the MultiplyingConnections Cross System Training Institute (CSTI), a cadre of professional trainers from education, child welfare, behavioral health and public health with expertise in trauma, trauma informed care, child development, parenting, and system change.

The Goal of Becoming Trauma Informed is:To Inform. To Impress. To Inspire.

  • To inform children’s services professionals about the impact of trauma on young children and continue a learning process that leads to a shared base of knowledge, values and skills related to trauma among professionals within and across the disciplines and systems that serve young children.
  • To impress upon children’s services professional that is both vital and possible to recognize and address trauma in very young children.
  • To inspire children’s service professionals to continue to learn more about the subject of trauma and trauma-informed practice in order to enhance and enrich their awareness, understanding and ability to relate and interact with children and families that have been exposed to trauma and adversity.

Becoming Trauma Informed - Part II

The Pennsylvania Council of Children, Youth and Family Services presents Part II of Becoming Trauma Informed for professionals serving young children and their families.

Becoming Trauma Informed Part IIbuilds upon the foundation of information about the impact of trauma on young children provided in Part I.Part II moves from theory and science to behavior and practice, offering strategies for child-serving professionals caring for and working with children ages 0-5 who have experienced trauma.Part II uses a framework called CAPPD which stands for Calm, Attuned, Present, Predictable and Do not Escalate - based on five skills Dr. Bruce Perry has identified as being essential for caregivers to have when working with young children who have experienced trauma. The curriculum provides multiple opportunities for professionals to learn and practice the CAPPD skills.

The Goal of Becoming Trauma Informed is:To Inform. To Impress. To Inspire.
