Thursday March 29th starting at 4:30pm. Pre-tryout clinic practice dates will be held March 22-23 and March 26-27th from 4-6pm.Clinic practices and Tryouts will be held in the South Aiken gym.

Tryouts

South Aiken Cheerleading Tryouts will be held Thursday, March 29th starting at 4:30pm in the GYM.

Pre-tryout clinic practices will be: March 22-23 and March 26-27thfrom 4-6pm in the GYM.

  • Attendance at all tryout practices will be mandatory unless prior arrangements have been made and approvedfor students interested in trying out.
  • All required forms must be turned in by March 20th at 4:30pm. All students trying out must have forms signed by a parent or guardian. Required forms are:
  • Candidate check list
  • Tryout Application
  • Permission & Acknowledgement form
  • Parental and Cheerleader Commitment Consent Form
  • Copy of your grades
  • Two sealed Teacher recommendations
  • The final evaluation is MANDATORY.
  • Dress code for tryout practices is white shirt, black shoes and athletic shoes.
  • Hair must be in a ponytail secured tightly.
  • NO JEWELRY!!! This includes, but is not limited to: earrings, belly rings, watches, bracelets, rings, necklaces, or any other piercing you may have. This is considered a safety violation in cheerleading.
  • Fingernails need to be short enough that when looking at your palm, one would see NO part of your nail. This too, is a safety violation in cheerleading.
  • No chewing gum!
  • Be on time. Make sure you arrive 15 mins in advance to check in and receive your number. Practices will start promptly at 4pm. Your number should be worn at ALL times throughout the tryout process.
  • Excessive talking will not be permitted.
  • Remember, you are being evaluated at ALL times! Violations to any of these rules will affect your final scores.
  • Dress forTryout practices and Final Evaluation: White or nude colored bra with plain white fitted tank or plain white t-shirt (tucked in), black shorts, and athletic shoes. Tops should not have any writing or logos on them. Remember to look the part. Your hair should be in a neat ponytail and your overall appearance should be neat.
  • Selection of teams will be posted on the front doors of South Aiken High School at 7:00PM. The decision of the coaches is FINAL!

Judging will be based on:

  • Knowledge of material
  • Poise and appearance
  • Voice Projection and enunciation
  • Enthusiasm, Showmanship, spirit and confidence
  • Timing and Technique
  • Tight motions with proper placement

All candidates will be required to do the following:

  • Group Dance
  • Group Chant
  • Group Cheer
  • Toe Touch and choice jump

*Stunting and any tumbling will be evaluated during tryout practices. Tumbling skills is not a requirement for eligibility but preferred.

Attendance/Behavior at tryout practices and coach evaluations will also make up a portion of your try-out score. This will be based on:

  • Attitudeo Character
  • Cooperationo Courtesy
  • Responsibility/Dependability o Arrival to practice on time
  • Efforto Ability to follow rules outlined above
