Materials:
Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominator notes, skittles, activity packet, fraction bars to use for adding and subtracting, colored pencils
Differentiation:
·  Help the lower level students to alter fractions of skittles to easier numbers to deal with
·  Require the higher level students to do the addition and subtraction with the decimals as well
·  Students who finish early will complete the follow your path activity / Objectives:
6.2B- Use addition and subtraction to solve problems involving fractions and decimals using concrete objects, pictorial models, and verbal representations.
6.2A- Model addition and subtraction situations involving fractions with objects, pictures, words, and numbers.
6.2D- Estimate and round to approximate reasonable results and to solve problems where exact answers are not required.

Skittles activity packet, fraction bars to use for adding and subtracting, homework sheets
Differentiation:
·  Allow my lower level students to alter fractions so that they are easier numbers to work with and provide with multiplication chart
·  Require the higher level students to convert the class fractions to decimals for us
·  If completed early allow students to work on homework and then complete the Fraction Puzzles Extra Credit Activity / Objectives:

o  Passes the paper to group 2
o  Group 2 creates a word problem associated with the number sentence already created
o  Passes the paper to group 3
o  Group 3 Solves the word problem
o  Passes the paper to Group 4
o  Group 4 Checks their work using estimation
o  Then one person returns the paper to the original group and everyone checks all the work.
