Job Purpose: To support the Principal in establishing high standards of behaviour and attendance at the Academy.

To work closely within the Personalisation team in providing a complementary service to that of Progress Leaders, teachers and other support staff who have responsibility for addressing the needs of students requiring help in meeting their potential and remove barriers to attainment.

To support the Principal and Senior Team in establishing a framework for proactive, restorative practices. To identify potential barriers to success before they become problems and broker multi-agency intervention in the process. Role modelling outstanding adult behaviours with children which result in outstanding levels of rapport, supportive, empathetic relationships and a strong and growing of community and social responsibility.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Establish productive working relationships with students; acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • To provide one to one session with students who are facing difficulties both internally and externally to the Academy which is impacting on their progress.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and behaviour and deal promptly with conflicts and incidents in accordance with established policy and practice
  • Support students consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all students in activities that support learning.
  • As required, provide Personalisation support for students on Academy Action or Academy Action Plus – as individuals and/or small groups; in class or by withdrawal

  • To support the Personalisation team in monitoring students’ academic progress and developing appropriate intervention strategies where necessary.
  • To support the role of the Progress leader in the effective implementation of the wave model.
  • To work with individual students in a key worker role.
  • To develop effective links with parents, carers and other stakeholders
  • To monitor student attendance and to liaise with Progress Leaders and members of extended leadership groups and others as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the rota in supporting colleagues by dealing with student problems as they arise, including restorative practices, counselling and supervision of students and communicating any action to the relevant staff, and, when necessary, parents.
  • To maintain contact with external agencies with regard to students who are isolated from lessons/Academy and are being supervised.
  • To liaise with parents of excluded students about their behaviour and any work that may have been set.
  • To contribute to specific personalisation initiatives within the Academy.
  • To fulfil any particular responsibilities specific to the role of Year Team Support Mentoras the role develops.
  • To undertake in-service training as required.
  • To assist in the implementation of the Academy’s equal opportunities policy.
  • To be aware of, and act in accordance with, the Academy’s relevant Policies, including Health and Safety, Lone Working, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities. Copies of the Policies are available from the Academy office.
  • To assist in the implementation of a model of restorative practice within the Academy
  • Other responsibilities as reasonably requested and commensurate with the grading of the post.
  • Investigate incidents that occur around the Academy, follow appropriate procedures to interview students and compile evidence. Take action if appropriate, or request intervention from a senior member of staff if necessary. Ensure that information is shared with the appropriate members of teaching staff.
  • Enter data onto each year group’s spreadsheet, record and analyse the number of incidents.
  • Support students with re-integration into lessons.
  • Prepare documentation relating to personalisation support.
  • Monitor students on report or within Academy monitoring system.

Experience

Experience of working with children of relevant age, for a minimum of 2 years (D)

Knowledge

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to individuals, small groups and whole classes (E)

Capable or willing to train in the use of platforms for data entry, assessment and tracking (E)

Education, Training and Qualifications

Excellent numeracy/literacy skills (E)
