Particulars for posItion of beach lifeguard (June/Sept. 2013)

1)CHARACTER:

Candidates shall be of good character.

2)AGE:

Candidates must be 17 years of age on 01stJune 2013 (or on taking up employment)

3)QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold an IrishWaterSafetyBeach Lifeguard Award or equivalent, as recognised by the International Lifesaving Federation (ILS).

Candidates will gain extra marks at interview for the following qualifications from an approved Training Provider: Cardiac First Responder, Emergency First Responder or Occupational First Aid.

4)RECRUITMENT

Candidates will be required to undergo a practical test in basic life support, swimming ability and swimming rescue at their own expense. Elements of this practical test are as follows:

  1. 200m Freestyle Swim with canbuoy (timed) followed by 100m carry (efficiency).
  2. 2x 25m approach, release and carry.
  3. Demonstrate EAR, CPR deep-water resuscitation.
  4. Spinal Injury management in Shallow Water (Splint or Clamp).
  5. Underwater search, pickup submerged manikin and administer deep water resuscitation.
  6. Demonstrate Basic Life Support and Aftercare on Adult, Junior and Infant.
  7. Theory on Basic Life Support, First Aid and general Lifeguard Duties and Responsibilities.

These tests will be held at Castlebar Pool on Friday 5th April 2013.

Candidates will also be required to attend for interview on Thurs. 4th /Fri. 5th April 2013.

All Candidates must attend both the interview and practical testin order to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which Beach Lifeguards may be appointed.

5)HEALTH

Candidates must be in a good state of health and be free from any ailments which would render them unsuitable to hold the position.

6)RATE OF WAGES:

€490 per week (39-hour/6-day week) payable as follows: Weekday €68 per day (12-noon to 6:30pm); Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays €109 per day (12-noon to 6:30pm);

7)The employment is temporary and pensionable and will continue for Summer Season 2013 only.

8)Successful applicants may be offered either weekday or weekend employment at the discretion of Mayo County Council.

9)The successful candidates may be based at any of the following or other locations:

Achill Island (Keel, Keem, Dugort, Golden Strand); Westport (Bertra); Louisburgh (Old Head, Carramore, Carrowniskey); Mulranny; Belmullet (Shore Road Pool); Killala (Ross).

Mayo County Council will have sole discretion to assign candidates to specific locations and to transfer candidates from one location to another as considered necessary.
