CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Purpose:
ENGLISH I Credit: 1 This college preparatory course emphasizes language skills to increase grammar efficiency and vocabulary through writing experiences, to enhance literary analysis through discussion, and to provide an introduction to research. An End of-Course exam will be used as an indicator of mastery of these skills. Works of literary merit are recommended as summer reading in addition to a parallel reading program during the year.This course will involve close reading and writing assignments. Students will be expected to write a research paper and read no less than two novels.
Classroom Guidelines:
Be Prepared (pen/pencil, notebook, paper, post-it notes)
Be Polite (Respect the teacher, the room, and fellow classmates)
Be Punctual (in your seat ready to work when the bell rings)
Be Positive (You CAN succeed in this class)
*ALL SCHOOL POLICIES, RULES, AND PROCEDURES WILL BE ADHERED TO IN THIS CLASSROOM. When inside the classroom, all students MUST be seated and ready to complete bellwork when the bell rings. ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES PERMITTED IN THIS CLASSROOM! They will be collected and turned in to the proper administrator. All students will remain seated until the bell rings. We work from bell to bell so“packing up” early will not be tolerated. We will be reading several short stories, poems, and at least two novels. Reading and writing will be required and expected in this class. It will be to your advantage to be sure to read the material assigned and complete any and all homework assignments. Assignments will be posted on Edmodo and it will be the students responsibility to check Edmodo daily and to remember their username and code in order to access their class.
Grading:
Grades will be given based on exams, homework, essays, Benchmark exams, and projects.
Parents will be able to view grades through parent Portal on the BHS website. Progress report and grade card times can be found on the school calendar.
Late work: Late work will receive a 10-point deduction each day it is late. Excused absences will have 5 days to complete and turn in for full credit. Excessive late work will result in a parent follow-up. BHS follows the Rutherford County policy regarding late work.
