BBC Child Consent Form

This form is to be used when a child participates in any BBC project, including programmes, usertesting, research, events and any other activity.

In consideration of the British Broadcasting Corporation (“BBC”), of Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London W1A 1AA, accepting my child as a participant in and/or contributor tothis programme / event / user testing / research / activity (“Project”) and any associated material, I hereby warrant, accept and agree for myself and on behalf of my child that:

  1. I acknowledge that the BBC has fully explained my child’s participation in the Project and that I fully understand the purpose of the Project.
  1. I understand that no fee will be payable for my child’s contribution.[1]
  1. I consent to my child being filmed, recorded and/or photographed for the Project on the terms set out in this release form and to any resulting footage, recording or stills of my child being used for the Project and/or in material produced in connection with the Project in perpetuity (including but not limited to this Project, and/or Project specific marketing and publicity materials in all media, such as BBC website(s) and BBC social media).
  1. I assign to the BBC the copyright and all other rights in my child’s and/or my own contribution to the Project (including, for the avoidance of doubt, any other use of such contribution as may be permitted by paragraph 3 above), I agree that the BBC may edit, adapt, translate or remove my child’s and/or my contribution and I hereby waive irrevocably any and all ‘moral rights’ in respect of my child’s and/or my contribution which may exist now or in the future. In the event that I have to withdraw my child from participation in the Project, it will be at the BBC’s sole editorial discretion as to whether to use any material featuring my child which has already been gathered prior to such withdrawal.
  1. My child will observe all procedures and rules and obey all instructions in force or given by an authorised official in connection with the management of the Project and/or the location(s) and fire safety and security arrangements in those locations and surrounding areas.
  1. I understand that my child’s contribution to the Project is unique and I agree to make my child available on all dates provided in advance by the Project team, including any follow-up activities.
  1. Where my child’s contribution includes the submission of any material to the BBC including, without limitation film footage of any kind and web “blogs”, I will ensure and warrant to the BBC that I have obtained the consent of any and all persons appearing in such material for the material to be used by the BBC in any manner and that such material is not defamatory to any person and does not bring the BBC into disrepute. Further I warrant that the material is my child’s own work and is subject to the grant of rights in paragraph 4 above.
  1. I understand that where material is submitted by my child, that the BBC will not return such material.
  1. I understand that this Project may require my child to take part in physical activities. I declare that my child is fit and able to take part. I will inform the BBC if there are any health concerns such as illness which may adversely affect my child or other people at the event e.g. upper respiratory infections, chicken pox, measles, flu and other conditions. The BBC reserves the right to refuse participation on the day of recording if any illness of this nature is evident. I shall set out all relevant information regarding my child’s health in the space provided on page 3 of this consent form (see ‘Section 4: About the Child’s Health’) prior to my child participating in the Project.
  1. I have not entered into any commercial or other sponsorship agreement or arrangement with any person, firm or company in respect of my child’s participation in the Project and will not do so.
  1. I shall not disclose any information concerning the Project or my child’s participation to any other person or company, whether by means of discussion, letter, press photograph, television interviews or otherwise without the prior consent of the BBC.
  1. If any of the information I have given in this form becomes incorrect due to any changes in circumstances between the date hereof and the date of transmission of the show, I undertake to inform the Project team immediately of the nature of such change.
  1. The BBC shall not be liable to me or my legal representative for any loss or damage or injury to my child or my child’s personal property caused or suffered during or in connection with their participation in the Project unless caused by the negligence of the BBC and recoverable on that ground.
  1. My child’s contribution shall not contain anything which is offensive, defamatory, an infringement of copyright or which is calculated to bring the BBC into disrepute.
  1. The BBC has no obligation to use my child’s contribution and where it believes appropriate it may decide not to include my child at any time. I understand that the signing of this release form does not guarantee my child’s appearance on the Project.
  1. I confirm that I am the child’s parent or legal guardian.
  1. I understand that all information collected and/or held in respect of myself and/or my child will only be used in connection with my child’s participation in the Project (and the use of such participation in related material as specified in paragraph 3 above) and in accordance with the BBC’s Privacy & Cookies Policy (located here: and the Data Protection Act 1998. The Project may be conducted by an external agency on the BBC’s behalf. The BBC agrees not to pass anypersonal data collated on to any other third party.
  1. I understand that the BBC operates within a Child Protection Policy (located here: and that the BBC takes the issue of child safety very seriously and will at all times comply with this Policy. I may request a copy of the BBC’s Child Protection Policy at any time. In pursuance of the above the BBC undertakes that:
  • BBC staff and associated artists will not be placed in a caring or supervisory position; and
  • BBC staff and associate artists will not ask for the personal details or contact details of any young person or offer their own details. Only generic BBC contact details will be provided.

I undertake that:

  • I will not leave any BBC staff or associate artists unaccompanied in the presence of a child or children: and
  • I will inform my child that they must not ask any BBC staff or associate artists for their personal contact details or give their own contact details to any staff and that they must not approach BBC staff or associate artists unless accompanied by myself, a school teacher or carer.
