CODE OF CONDUCT

This Code of Conduct has been developed to protect and strengthen the reputation of the Bayside Ravens Gridiron Club Inc (Ravens) in the community by establishing a standard of performance,behaviour and professionalism for its players, officials and all members of the Club. The Code of Conduct is the expected model of behaviour for all those involved at Ravensand its principles are expected to be adhered to atall times. The Code of Conduct has been discussed and formally approved by the Ravens Board of Management. It is therefore binding on all persons who hold current Club membership status.

Representing the Club

When representing the Ravensin any situation, members are expected to behave in a manner thatupholds the reputation of this club.

Members represent the Club when they are in the following situations:

  1. When dressed in club attire or in anything that links members to the Club. This includes both on-field and off-field apparel.
  2. When they are on Club premises.
  3. As any part of any representative team as a player, coach or official
  4. When supporting the club at any home and away or finals fixture
  5. When attending any function on behalf of the club.
  6. When conducting any fundraising activities on behalf of the Club
  7. When at any event organised by the Club, Gridiron Queensland or Gridiron Australia

Respect for Home Ground Rooms and Facilities

The Club expects that all players and supporters that frequent and use the Club’s Home Ground rooms and facilities will do so in a responsible and respectful manner. Anybehaviour that could be viewed as intimidating to person or property ordamaging to person or property will be met with a strictly ‘no tolerance’ attitudeby the Club. Any person observed to be acting in an irresponsible manner asoutlined above will be immediately requested to leave the Club’s premises by any Board member or other Club Official (ega Coach) or a member of the Club Player Leadership Group andwhere appropriate face disciplinary consequences.

Respect for Rooms and Facilities of other Clubs

The Ravens expect that all Club members will show the same standard ofrespect and behaviour while visiting and using other Club’s facilities and rooms. Any person representing the Ravens observed to be acting in a manner construed tobreach this part of the Code to will be subject to immediate disciplinary action.

Alcohol

The Club is committed to conducting its activities in a manner that encouragesresponsible service and consumption of alcohol. The Club accepts that it occupies a community leadership position in settingstandards for a wide range of social and sporting behaviours. Establishing benchmarks for responsible alcohol consumption and reducing theharm associated with excessive alcohol consumption is in the best interests of theClub at all levels, its players and officials and the wider community. As such, participating Players, Coaching Staff and Committee attending TrainingSessions and Match days must do so with no impairment from the effects ofalcohol. Unacceptable behaviour contrary to the Club’s Code of Conduct, whilstrepresenting or attending club related activities, as a consequence of consumingor whilst under the influence of alcohol will not be tolerated by the Club and anysuch offender will be subject to disciplinary action.

Illicit or Banned Performance-enhancing Drugs

Any Official, Coach, Player or Member who is found consuming or in possessionof banned performance-enhancing drugsas determined by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) or illicit recreational drugs or acting under the influence of illicit drugs (other than drugswhich have been prescribed on medical grounds) will be deemed to be committing an act of grossmisconduct and will render themselves subject to the Club’s disciplinary processes and possible criminal charges by the Queensland Police Service. The Club does not condone the use of recreational or performance-enhancing drugs. It is expected that all Members of the Club will respect the Club’s clear stance on this issue. Use or proliferation of recreational drugs or performance-enhancing drugs in any situation where Members are representing the Club is unacceptable and represents a clear violation of this Code.

Behaviour Guidelines

In match situations, all players,coaches and any Club officialswill-

  1. Ensure the game is played and conducted in accordancewith disciplined and sporting behaviour;
  2. Co-operate in ensuring that the spirit of the laws of the game areupheld and adhered to;
  3. Not repeatedly breach the laws of the game;
  4. Accept and observe the authority and decisions of officials of Gridiron Queensland Officials Association (GQOA) or other officials who adjudicate matches
  5. Not publish or criticise the manner in which an official has handled agame;
  6. Not publish or cause to be published criticism of the manner inwhich the Ravens Board of Management, Gridiron Queensland or Gridiron Australia handled or resolved any dispute ordisciplinary matter resulting from any breach of the laws of the game.
  7. Not abuse, threaten harass or intimidate any official or spectator whether on or off the field of play;
  8. Not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards any match officials or spectators;
  9. Not do anything which is likely to intimidate, offend, insult,humiliate or discriminate against any other person on the ground in relation to theirreligion, race, skin colour or national or ethnic origin;
  10. Not to do anything which adversely affects any person on the Club’s Board of Management, any Subcommittee or any commercial partner of the club.

Sanctions & Penalties

If a Ravens’ player, official or Club memberis alleged to have breached this Code of Conduct in any way, the Club’s Player Grievance and Disciplinary Committee will investigate theallegations in accordance with natural justice principles. The person alleged to have committed the breach may be required to provide a written statement to the Committee and/or appear before the Committee at a special hearing. The person who is alleged to have breached the Code may choose a person to represent them at any hearing by the Committee and call witnesses in their defence. If the Committee concludes that a breach of the Code of Conduct is substantially proven, itmay recommend to the Board to administer a penalty or combination of penalties which can include:-

  1. A written reprimand
  2. A direction to make a verbal or written apology
  3. A direction to undergo counselling
  4. A fine
  5. Playing suspension for a number of matches
  6. Cancellation of membership and expulsion from the Club
  7. Such other sanction as recommended by the Committee.

Unless the Board has legitimate reasons to decide otherwise, it will implement the recommendation(s) of the Committee.
