BASTON FOOTBALL CLUB

History

Baston Football Club was founded in 2005 by Sam Spry along with a squad of 15-18 young local players, mainly from within the village of Baston. They were inducted into the Grantham & District League for the 2006/07 season, where many of the players would be experiencing their first taste of league football.

Despite an unimpressive start to league football, Baston improved for the following season with several new players joining and managed to finish clear of the bottom 3 under the stewardship of management team Tony Bedford and Phil Davies. Baston struggled, and lost several players and slumped back down to second bottom in the 2008/09 season.

A high influx of new players in the summer of 2009 led to a separate Baston side being formed away from the main squad, and the 1st team improved dramatically, clinching a top half finish in the Grantham first division, and going on to secure their first ever silverware as they beat rivals Harrowby United 6-1 for the Benevolent Cup.
With the side improving and needing promotion for weekly competitive football, Baston pushed for promotion in the 2010/11 season but ultimately came up short as the league finished with Baston not playing all of their games. The season was still a good one with Baston reaching 5 cup quarter finals, claiming some higher league scalps along the way.

Baston FC took the decision at the beginning of the 2011/12 season to move to the prestigious Peterborough & District League, it made sense to make a change and seek a new challenge. The club was accepted into the Peterborough District League for 2011/12 season. For the 2012/13 season Baston FC will be running a 1st and reserve side in the PDFL.

In October 2011 Baston FC received the FA Charter Standard Club award, thanks to the hard work of the 10 strong committee, who ensure a smooth and successful running of the club.

Baston FootballClub Future Plans

The long term aim is to improve the existing playing surface and facilities to provide a suitable pitch wherewe can introduce youngsters in and around the village to the game. We have already created ties to youth teams within the village and surrounding area, and have coaching staff who have achieved their FA Coaching badges.

Over the last 2 years close season maintenance has been funded by BPFMC and along with volunteers from the Baston FC a vastimprovement in the pitch has been achieved.

In parallel to the continued development of the playing surface, it is hoped to obtain agreement, funding and support to install new goal posts, dug outs and a permanent respect barrier.

During the year it is noticeable that many village youngsters are playing football on the field.

We believe that improving the facilities would allow BFC to:

Provide structured coaching for all ages and ability levels, and a clear line of site into open age football.

Bring on the next generation of BFC players, and future-proof the football club.

Support the overall plans of the club.

Improve the overall level of BFC and the facilities in the village.
