Basic Computer Glossary Terms
Address Bar / The narrow, horizontal space in the window of a web browser that is used to display the address of a websiteBing / A search engine powered by MSN that brings together search capabilities and people in your social networks.
Blog /
- A website containing a writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other websites.
- A single entry or post on such a website
Browser (Web Browser) / A software program that allows people to view the World Wide Web (Internet)
Chrome / A web browser powered by Google
Cloud / Large networks of servers that allow for data storage and online access (i.e., Google Drive)
Downloading /
- Transfer documents or data from one device to another
- Transfer from email to computer
Email / A system for sending messages from one individual to another via computer
Google / A website/search engine that is used to find information, as well as maps and directions, email, storage for documents, document creation, shopping, etc…
Internet / A vast network of information that can be viewed on a computer, smartphone, tablet, etc… with information that includes commercial, educational, governmental and communication
Internet Explorer / A web browser
Mozilla Firefox / A web browser
Search Bar / The narrow horizontal space on a search engine page that allows you to type whatever words would help you find what you are looking for
Search Engine / A computer program that searches documents, especially on the World Wide Web, for specified word or words and provides a list of documents or sites in which they are found
Uploading /
- To transfer documents or data from a smaller computer to a larger one
- Attach a document to an email message
- Put a resume on a website
Website / A connected group of pages on the World Wide Web usually devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics
Window / A single rectangular area displayed on a computer screen
World Wide Web / A branch of the Internet (abbreviation: WWW)
Yahoo / A website/search engine that is used to find information, maps, email, news, shopping, etc…
