Objectives:
1)Strengthen reading and critical thinking skills though science
2)Complete coursework for full credit in Environmental Science
3)Prepare for success on science OGT or strengthen test taking skills
Expectations:
1)RespectfulAND responsiblebehavior towards self and others at all times.
2)Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings.
3)Come prepared with your supplies and with a positive attitude.
4)Homework is due on time. Reasonable consideration will be given for late work.
Discipline:

7)Referral to the office.
Cell Phones: are disruptive to the classroom environment, and will taken away each and every time I see one out, no questions asked…
1st offense: You may pick your phone up from me at the end of the day in
the science office, room 217
repeated offenses: You will need to pick your phone up from an assistant
principal
Homework:
Most of our work will be completed in class. Occasionally, students may need to finish work at home. I regularly post information for our class on the high school portal page. You can check my webpage for homework assignments and class notes. You can access my webpage from the high school portal page or directly at
Grades:
Student’s grades are based on appropriate classroom behavior, class participation, tests, quizzes, and projects. Grades are weighted 80/20. Formative assessments (pre-tests, classwork, homework) will count for 20% of the grade, while summative assessments (chapter tests, projects) will count for 80% of the grade. Prior to starting a new chapter, students will participate in a formative assessment which will allow the student to demonstrate prior knowledge of a subject. The pre-test formative assessment will not count towards a student’s grade, but rather as a comparison tool for material known prior to starting a new topic with material learned. If a student demonstrates an understanding of a subject with 90% accuracy or better on a pre-test, the student may opt to study the subject at a deeper and enriched level as arranged with me. Summative assessments will be given at the end of each chapter. Mastery of a taught subject will be 70% accuracy or better. Should a student not obtain mastery of a subject, the student will be given opportunity to correct his or her work and resubmit for better grade.
Tests:
Students will be able to use their own personal science binders. All tests are open note. It is my personal teaching philosophy that students do not need to memorizeinformation to demonstrate mastery but rather know where to find needed information and then apply knowledge.
