VERSES

THE PASSION WEEK (traditional view)

Mark 14:1- "Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him."

THE INJUSTICES OF THE SIX TRIALS

The Night Trials

I Corinthians 15:3-7 - "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter than to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then, he appeared to James, then to all the apostles."

Matthew 26: 59 - "The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death."

Matthew 26:63,65,66 - "But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him 'I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.' 'Yes, it is as you say,' Jesus replied.….."Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, 'He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?' 'He is worthy of death,' they answered."

The Roman Trial

Luke 23:4,14 - "Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, 'I find no basis for a charge against this man.'….and said to them, 'You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.'"

Luke 23:22 - "For the third time he spoke to them: 'Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.'"

Matthew 27:18, 21-23 - "For he knew it was out of envy that they had handled Jesus over to him….'Which of the two do you want me to release to you?' asked the governor. 'Barrabas,' they answered.' 'What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?' Pilate asked. They all answered, 'Crucifiy him!' 'Why? What crime has he committed?' asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, 'Crucify him!'

EVIDENCE FOR THE RESURRECTION

I Corinthians 15:4-7 - "that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.'"
