Barrie and District Christmas CheerProcedure

The Barrie and District Christmas Cheer provides hampers at Christmas to families of Barrie and District containing ingredients for a full-course Christmas dinner, as well as lunch and breakfast foods for about a week; each child up to ten years receives a new quality toy and youths ages 11-16 years receive a gift certificate.

Community Connection/211 has agreed to provide a single telephone number available 24/7, with multilingual capability in 150 languages, and alternate TTY access for the public to receive information about acquiring food hampers, donating items and money and volunteering to support Barrie and District Christmas Cheer.

Community Connection/211 will provide the following:

Inform caller of application process, dates and documents needed to apply for Christmas Cheer

Inform caller of process of how to donate money

Inform caller of process of how to donate items (such as food and toys) to the Christmas Cheer Program. Collect names of individuals wanting to donate and send daily to appropriate contact person.

  • Internal process:
  • Look at website to inform callers of what items may be needed more than others.
  • Collect from callers:
  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Donation Items
  • Give donation information to Sarah Owens before or at 4:30pm each day. All names should be collected together and handed in as a complete list at the end of each day.
  • Names collected after 4:30 pm each day can be handed in the next day, end of day.

Inform caller of process of how to volunteer to the Christmas Cheer Program. Collect names of individuals wanting to volunteer and e-mail daily to appropriate contact person.

  • Internal process:
  • Direct people to website if they have internet access
  • If not, go to website and inform callers of different positions and dates and times available and collect:
  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • Activity they are interested in helping with
  • Dates they are available to help
  • Give volunteer information to Sarah Owens before or at 4:30pm each day. All names should be collected together and handed in as a complete list at the end of each day.
  • Names collected after 4:30 pm each day can be handed in the next day, end of day.
  • File of all volunteer and donation information sent to Barrie and District Christmas Cheer will be saved in the company folder

If the applicant is not eligible (out of service area) for Christmas Cheer Program, inform caller and provide other resources.
