Course Objective and/or Description:

This is a 9-week rotation that will provide an opportunity for acquiring basic life

skills and allows students to select specific areas for concentrated study. Emphasis is on work and family, consumer spending, healthy choices, and financial literacy. Leadership development will be provided through the Family Career and Community Leaders of America.

Mrs. Jackson, Mr. Gillon, and Mr. Peters are the other teachers in this rotation. You will rotate to Mrs. Jackson after this nine weeks for Career Tech.

Writing Component:

During this course students will be expected to execute effectively a variety of writing skills such as daily board work (“sponges”), writing to demonstrate learning (open responses, essay questions, on-demands, etc.) and writing for a real purpose (speeches, editorials, letters, research papers, feature articles, etc.).

Grading Policy:

·  Grading Scale: Grading will follow the school policy grading scale:

90-100  A

80-89  B

70-79  C

60-69  D

0-59 F

·  Late Work: It is not fair to the other students who turn their work in on time to receive the same grade as those who procrastinated and failed to make the deadline; therefore for each day the assignment is late it is worth half credit.

·  Makeup Work: Make up work is the responsibility of the student to obtain and turn in. The student has 5 class days to make up the work once they return to the class as long as the absence was EXCUSED. After the 5 days are passed, the student will not be able to make up the work. Students are to pick up the makeup work from the designated folder and from the weekly scroll. Once the student has completed the work they are to turn in the assignments into their period’s tub on the cart. Students may also check my teacher webpage to find assignments.

·  Note Guides: Students will be provided with guided note guides every time we will take notes as a class. It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with their notes and make sure they bring them to class every day. If a student loses a note guide they will not be given an additional copy, and to receive the credit they must write the entire note guide (not just the blanks) on their own paper.

·  Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated in this course. Each student is to perform at his or her personal best, without the use of someone else’s work. If a student has difficulty with an assignment or projects it is their responsibility to contact the instructor for guidance or help. Any student caught cheating will automatically receive a zero for that grade and their parents/guardian will be notified for the first offense. Any additional offense and students will be reported to an administrator for further consequences.

Attendance Policy: Students have up to five school days to make up assignments and/ or tests due to an excused absence. Work may be made up before or after school and must be scheduled with the course instructor.

Semester Test Policy: Students with any unexcused absences in a course or have been assigned to ASP are required to take the semester exam which counts as part of the semester grade.

Plagiarism / Academic Dishonesty Policy: Plagiarism and academic dishonesty are serious offenses. The academic work of a student is expected to be his/her own effort. Students must give the author(s) credit for any source material used. To represent ideas or interpretations taken from a source without giving credit is a flagrant act. To present a borrowed passage after having changed a few words, even if the source is cited, is also plagiarism. Students who commit any act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade in that portion of the course work. Acts of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration.
