Barking Cricket Club Development Plan 2014 - 2019

Introduction

Barking Cricket Club (BCC) is in its 109th year of existence in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham (LBBD). For a cricket club to have existed so long in the LBBD is down to the dedication and hard work of our forebears and the existing members of the Club. Of course, we have enjoyed a business like partnership with the LBBD councillors and employees over the years.

BCC currently have 90 colt and adult members and put out two (2) colt and three (3) adult teams during the season. The adult teams have progressed in various Essex leagues over the last 10 years and we currently play in three divisions of the Essex County Cricket League. The Colts teams have progressed to a satisfactory standard and take part in under 13 and under 15 competitions.

Barking Cricket Club exists to provide the facilities and organisation to allow all members of the local community and the surrounding areas the chance to enjoy cricket. Club membership is open to all. We seek to attract players of all ages and abilities in order to:

- Share enjoyment of village cricket

- Encourage and nurture new talent

- Engender a sense of team spirit and community

We aim to provide a friendly atmosphere in which everyone is welcome to play cricket in the true spirit of the game. We intend to continually improve facilities and opportunities for all so that we improve standards of cricket at Barking Cricket Club.

The club is controlled by a well organised committee. Our committee consists of a President, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Fixture Secretary, General Manger, Child Welfare Officer, Compliance Officer and Club Captains. Our constitution is designed on the standard template from the England and Wales Cricket Board and clearly states that our objective is to ensure the community of Barking and Dagenham has access to participate and enjoy the game of cricket.

• The development of junior cricket to the benefit of the club and the local community

• Investment by the club in equipment, coaching and facilities

• Working in partnership when this is to the benefit of the club and community

• A commitment to sound planning and management of each element of the plan

The club is determined to achieve the aims of the plan and will review progress on a regular basis. These reviews will take into account the views of people independent of the club such as the Cricket Development Officer.

The club has achieved a great deal since it began to plan towards its future. This planning has already paid dividends but the club now wants to be able to develop into a successful cricket club.
